I Wanna See Your Mother!

My nephew (25)is dating a girl and she is a really sweet person. And she is beautiful. They have been dating for about 4 months and I asked him if it was getting serious. He told me that he really likes her BUT he doesn't intend to stick it out. The reason is that he believes all women turn into their mother - and her mother is overweight and irritable. I am being more generous with my description than a smart azz, cocky 25 year old was.

SO... do you think people are in someway destined to become their parents? Are you and your parents similar?

I - personally - don't think anyone is destined to become anything... HOWEVER... I do happen to look more and more like my mom the older I get. Note - my mom was a hot little platinum blonde when she was younger - I didn't get that version of her. I AM getting the chunky short, snub nosed, middle aged version.

I have noticed that I do things like my mother and my mother is definitley starting to look like my Nana - but I don't think you "turn into" your mother. You may have similar traits, but still be different.

I think only men think that. I certainly didn't judge my DH on the way his Father is....That being said--Of course we have the same genetics so some part of us may loo, act, talk like our parents. You can modify that with different lifestyle, food choices etc. I think as far as personality goes that is way off. I am VERY different from my Mom but similar to my Dad-still not exactly alike

the older i am getting the more i am becoming my mother. funny, she looked like her mother and i look nothing like my grandmother HMMMM?

I am so much like my mother it's scary. And DH is a lot like my father - again, frightening. Thankfully, my mom, with all her quirks, its a pretty great lady. I look a lot like her, which I never really noticed until recently, but I see it all the time now.

This is such a good question!!! I look very much like my mom except she's a lot shorter than me. She got a much cuter look than me because she is petite.

Our lifestyles are different though in that DH and I work out a lot and don't smoke, spend time riding bikes, etc and I know my parents never did that.

If you take a pic of her right after being married she looks just like I do now. So genetically yes, I look exactly like my mom, but our bodies are different because I am more active.

All I can say is, my DH mentioned something like this early on in our relationship. He somewhat believes that women turn into their mothers. After he met my mother, I am lucky he is still with me! Every now and then, he asks if I will be like my mother and I reassure him no. We have some similar traits but I will never make the mistakes she has - too controlling with her children, poor eating habits, chain smoker since she was a teenager and on and on.

So, no, I don't think your destiny is necessarily set in stone. I am learning from my parents mistakes to be a better person.

I look just like my mom (a younger version), although I am aging better because my mom smoked for many many years and I never did. Personality wise I think I am a lot like her, although I definately have some of my Dad's traits. That's fine by me though because my mother is an amazing woman and I aim every day to turn out to be the kind of woman she is.

If my husband married me because he thought I was going to look like my mother someday he got gyped!!!

I look like my Dad's family.

I look nothing like my Mom but I do find myself adopting her attitude about things as I get older. And using the same catch phrases.

If I turn out just like my Mom, I'd be pretty well off.

If I was my Mom I would be 4'9 and 100 pounds! It's only natural you have some of the same traits your parents have. You just have to work on not letting them be negative if thats what you grew up with!

me and my mom are todl we look alike

BUTTTTT i am NOTHING like my mom. we are complete opposites. the only thing i get from her is my cynicalism

You are giving him too much credit.

He's a good kid - I think he will learn what's what as time goes on. He's still young. He has my sisters and I to guide him!

I agree to a point.

My Mom was the only girl and she does a lot of thing slike her Mom.

I am 1 of 3 girls and I see each of us do a lot of things my Mom did/does, but not 100%.

I agree that you wind up on the "path" as you Mom

I am most likely destined to look like my mom as I get older. And I (as well as the DH ) think that's awesome. Because everyone thinks that we're sisters. And because she looks and acts younger than she her age.

As far as personalities - I think that I am destined to act like her in some ways, because we have very similar quirks. However, as she fights 'turning into her mother' (ex. my nonna wasn't exactly the most loving, easy to deal with person), I fight turning into her (ex. she freaks the eff out really easily and really holds in everything that's bothering her).

But for the most part, if I end up being my mother's clone in the end - so be it. I will love her until the end of time because she's amazing.

My sister and I are morphing into our mother. . . she is closer though bc she is 14 yrs older LOL

we do a lot of things like her
if we dont like something we make faces and then get all offended when people notice

we get mad when people dont do what we want meanwhile we never directly asked

we see dusts on all surfaces

etc.

one thing i DIDN'T get from mom. . . her DD almost E boobs LOL

I am slowly turning into my mother. Sometimes I hear myself soundling like her. When my husband complains about my mother I always say to him...Honey, YOU MARRIED IT!!!

I look just like my mother. And more and more, I feel like I sound like her. I catch myself using the same phrases and mannerisms as her a lot lately. It's kinda scary.

And DH says I have this look I make that is the same as my mom, it drives him crazy.

I notice that as I get older, I'm starting to share some of the traits my mom has.
