I think it's time for a toddler bed....
DD managed to jump and flip head first over her crib railing tonight. Thank God I was there and caught her before she landed head-first on her floor!!
Needless to say, it's time for a toddler bed. I want to make this transition as easy as possible. DD has a great bedtime routine and usually sleeps throuh the night. It took me forever to get her to this point! I am so scared that putting her in the toddler bed is going to throw her off and lead to many, many sleepless nights......
I am also scared of her getting up in the middle of the night and "exploring" the house while we sleep!
Any advice on how to make this transition as smooth and safe as possible is greatly appreciated!

Re: I think it's time for a toddler bed....
we just transitioned at 28 months. ZERO issues. He can climb into and out of bed on his own but has not actually tried to get out after we put him in to "sleep" or "nap". In the mornings, he just sits and plays and rolls around like he did in his crib.
we just made sure that we told him to wait in his bed until mommy or daddy come to get him.

We transitioned DD2 this spring after she discovered how to climb out. First we tried sleep sacks and that held off the transition for another month, but she figured out how to propel herself over like your dd did, so it was time.
She had a tough time on night one, but after that she has been fine. We just made sure her room is child proofed and all dressers etc are secured to the walls so she can't tip anything onto herself and close the door. DD2 couldn't open doorknobs yet (although she has just learned how) and we can't gate anymore because DD1 needs access to the bathroom. I have it so that the door is LOUD when opened so I can hear it.
ETA: DD2 was 18 months when we transitioned, she turns 2 next month.

DD was 26 months and had showed no interest in leaving her crib but we wanted to start Potty Training. We just brought the toddler bed in and set it up next to her crib the 1st night. She saw it and crawled right in. We just closed her door at bedtime. We have never had any issues at all. She goes right in and goes to sleep for both naps and bedtime. She loves "making her bed" and picking out her new blankets. I just never made it a really big deal and said here you go....you have a new bed from now on. She is asking for a bigger bed because Daisy, our cat, wants to sleep with her and her bed is to small for them both lol. Santa is bringing her a full size bed. She did slide out the 1st night but after that we never had an issue and never had rails on the bed.
