I think DD may have/be developing "flathead" syndrome.

But I am not sure. She has a bald spot in the middle of the back of her head, which my SIL And BIL said my niece (who does not have flathead) also had. But today when I was really looking at her, the back of her head doesn't seem as round as it should be. She is almost 4 months old. I know I have to go to the dr. for her, but is there anyone who has dealt with this that can give me some advice? Or just hugs? I'm a pretty laid back Mom, give her lots of tummy-time. She just started to roll over, so I am so lost.Chat Icon

The bald spot is normal. Its from turning their head side to side. They say eventually the hair will grow back stronger then the rest of the hair on thier head. Chat Icon

Re: I think DD may have/be developing "flathead" syndrome.

I had actually noticed this with my DD when she was a baby. I bought something from Target (online only i think) it was a raised headrest that had a hole in the middle where ther head goes. so when she sleeps it will remold her head. It is just like a cushion. It worked for my DD. If I can find a pic I will send it to you

dd started to have a questionable head shape at the beginning...the doc actually was a lil concerned at first and he isnt a worrier or a doc that makes u worry AT ALL so he said to make sure u keep her up when u can, tummy time when u can and rotate the sides that she sleeps on to try to make her not favor one side of laying while sleeping....thats what i did and around the four mos visit he said it looked much better and whenever we go he checks it and says how proud he is of me bc it looks better and better....lol....like i molded her head myself by hand or something lololol....anyway do what u can, try not to worry and im sure things work out fineChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Seamus had this

I took him to a neursurgeon when he was 6 months old on the advise of my ped. His evaluation was fine and they said it would eventually correct itself. It has slowly started tor ound out over the 2 months. Once they really start sitting up and being on their bellies, it gets better

I would talk to the ped. My ped advised me to go because part of his head was really, really flat. I felt better going and knowing for sure

Did any of you use those "noggin" pillows--or do you think they are just BS?

I started noticing this when DS was 4 weeks old. The ped wasn't concerned and said it should correct itself once he's able to sit up unsupported. Sure enough, he was right. His head isn't perfectly round in the back, but it definitely improved once he spent more time upright and less time on his back. We also used the noggin nest whenever he was in his swing or bouncer. I would say by 6 months, DS's head became noticeably rounder in the back.

DS had a very flat spot on his head. the ped just said give him more tummy time. yeah right Chat Icon he hated it!!

but now that he rolls and sits up the spot is pretty much gone, and his hair is growing back. keep an eye on it and i'm sure it will be fine! Chat Icon

My son had that, pretty bad...we just did a LOT of tummy time, which he hated so not as much as the Dr's advised. For us, it evened out. He is almost 2 now and his head is 100% normally shaped. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My son had the balding as well as the flat head- (he always slept in the same position even if I moved him) He's now 8 months and I can hardly notice it anymore. I think once they start sleeping in different positions it dissipates.
