I seriously HATE the Cross Island!
First of all, who designs a parkway and doesn't take into consideration a friggin shoulder?
Secondly, you can't even get off at Bell because of the throggs neck traffic hogging the lane.

Honestly, all the highways within the NYC limits are ridiculous. I absolutely hate them and every time I'm on them I scream that I must be dumb for living here to put up with this!

I was on the Cross Island today too and also was so mad! Stupid people who probably take the Throgs Neck everyday but still need to be in the left lane until the last possible minute so they can cut everyone else off who have been patiently waiting to get on the bridge - they annoy the people waiting to get on the bridge and the people who just want to get by them!
Also, it's water people, GET OVER IT!!!! We don't have to slow down to people watch or look at the boats!

This annoys me the most!!! Then they stop in the middle lane so anyone IN the middle lane must either stop or get into the leftlane and cut another person off.

I agree, i don't know why they made a one lane entrance to the ThroggsNeck, that is why I only take the Clear view and there is never any traffic and much more wider then cross island.
I feel your pain!

The CIP has been brutal lately - the Whitestone construction is causing major back ups on the Throggs Neck. Even though it's out of the way, the Clearview is a much better option.
But this cutting over at that last minute happens everywhere all the time. It is so infuriating to be waiting to get off at an exit and some tool comes over at the last minute and cuts the whole line.

The parkways were designed in the 1930s when cars didn't go 90 mph. I guess they should change the ramps, but there just isn't room.
I don't know why anyone takes the CIP to the Throgg's Neck Bridge. The Clearview is so much easier! DH's GPS always says to take CIP and I always say no way. Finally one day, I said, OK take the CIP and find out for yourself and he regretted it.

ITA. It used to be two. After the fire the changed it to one. Why!!! I always take the clearview when I'm in Queens.

THIS is why there is always so much traffic!!!!! BC PPL STOP in the left lane to cut over to the bridge at the last minute OMG makes my blood BOIL !!!!!!!!!!!
