I Rear Ended Someone
So how does this work? There is no damage to my car but he went and got an estimate for the damage. I submitted to my insurance and am waiting to hear back.
I pay my deductible and then the insurance pays for his repairs? I have never had an accident where there was no damage to my car.

Yup, that's exactly right. Did you offer to try and work it out among the two of you? That way, your ins. wouldn't go up.

Re: I Rear Ended Someone
You got lucky. I rear ended someone twice so far and each time it was $6k or more in damage to my car. The first time the other driver had minor damage and my insurance company covered it. The second time, the other driver had no damage.

Yes, I told him if it was under $500 we'd do it without insurance because my decutible was $500. But this kid customized his car so he needs a complete new bumper for $1000. Not happy about it but I'd rather go through insruance and just pay $500.

I would request he go to your auto body shop (if you have one). I only had to pay 250 for a new bumper (out of my deductable)
don't beat yourself up over it... at least you weren't hurt..
I got into TWO fender benders in 2006 within one month of each other.
it s*cked...
one was my fault... one wasn't but my insurance went up.

I agree. I would never go based on what HIS mechanic gave me. believe it or not, if this kid has his car all decked out, I'm sure he has a mechanic friend who bumped up the price so he can cash in.

Re: I Rear Ended Someone
I am definitely going to have the insurance send him to another place.
I am not going to just give this kid money. I have to call the insurance on my lunch! I have 100 things to do on my lunch this is insane.

Re: I Rear Ended Someone
If you are just getting his car fixed, there is no deductible. The deductible only applies if you are fixing your car. The coverage for him falls under the property damage portion of your coverage. The deductible is only if you use your collision portion, which is only for your car. So your insurance will pay him directly and get him a rental car while it is being fixed.

This is correct...also, most people want to use their own body shop. I was rear-ended and the girls BF wanted me to use his body shop cuz it would be cheaper than mine and I told him no way we could just go through insurance. I don't know what kind of work another shop is going to do and I trust the shop I have gone to before.

He can get the car fixed wherever he want when you go through insurance. Depending on what carrier you have, they will either go to him and give an estimate, send him to one of their recommended shops for an estimate or send an adjuster to his shop of choice for an estimate.
