I phone users-would you pay full price?
Is it THAT good? DH got one last month and is trying to convince me to get one. But my Verizon contract is not eligible for an upgrade until February, so the only way for me to get it would be to pay for one without a contract ($650) at the Apple store. Is it worth it?
If I makes a difference, I have about $400 in gift cards I could use, so it would cost about $250 out of pocket. Also, I currently have an Eris, which I loathe.

I LOVE my iphone but would not pay full price. I waited a few months for my upgrade. But we also got it early. We are on a family plan with FIL, and he kept calling and talking to different people until he got us our upgrade two months early. Maybe you can try that?
And who knows when the 5th gen will come out. Maybe before your upgrade so it might be worth waiting...

Def not.
I have Verizon also and my upgrade won't happen until April 2012. I'm stuck with my Blackberry Bold until then, but no way I would spend more than $200 on another phone. By the time I get it, a newer version would probably be released!

Hell no would I pay full price -- even though I love my new iPhone. It's not worth that much - and I think it's disgusting that they come up with that amount as "full price".
Try checking out ebay for one.

This is how my DH is and he's trying to sway me I think I am going to wait on it. Maybe when the iPhone 5 comes out, they will sell the 4's for cheap!

I wouldn't pay full price and honestly I would get a Droid over the Iphone. I hated my Eris but I love my Droid X.
My Eris broke twice and the second time I fought with them and got my upgrade early b/c the Eris was such a crap phone.

Really?? How recently? I am trying to get an early upgrade, but they keep saying no, and offering to send me a new Eris. I am on my second Eris (they sent me a new one because I complained about my original). I keep having the same issues over and over, and they keep saying it's not the phone!

It was probably 6 months ago. Did you speak to a manager?
Did you call on the phone. Sometimes I've had better luck dealing with issues on the phone than in store.
It is the phone. Look at the Eris reviews on CNET. Ask them why they stopped selling it only a few months after they got it. It's known to be a bad phone. It's definitely not you.

No way! I lucked out and was due for a phone upgrade shortly after the 4g was released and even then I wrestled with spending $200.

I don't know if DH spoke to a manager or not (he has not even tried in store), but we will try again this week. I am annoyed I am stuck with this thing. Thanks for the info!

In this situation, I'd say sure, go for it. I paid about $250 when I got my iPhone through Verizon at the time of my upgrade so at this point you're really not paying more than if you wait, and honestly what the heck else can you do with $400 in an apple store? At least in this instance about 2/3 of the item is being covered. That's not gonna be the case with anything else except an iPod or iPad.

I was debating the same thing. Not up for a new phone til the end of the year. Then, I realized Im not paying close to $1000 for a phone. Just wait if you can. Full price is a ridiculous amount for a phone.

If you really want the phone and don't mind using the gift cards I would do it. You're talking about a matter of $50 if you do it that way. Are you happy to wait months to save $50? I think that's what it comes down to.

same- only if i had the gift cards- otherwise i'd wait. DH's contract doesn't expire until December which is when he will be getting his iphone. He has the original Droid from Verizon
