I need some potty training insight....
Ds is 2 1/2 and as of this moment still in diapers. He uses the potty before bed every night and in the past has gotten to the point of being in pull ups, using the potty all day, independently dumping his pee pee in the toilet, flushing and washing his hands. He did this for about 3 weeks but once the hype was gone he didn't care about using the potty anymore. He gets the whole process and knows when he has to go but just isn't interested at the moment. So do I push him or let him be???

If you are going to do it you have to take away the pull up. Give it a shot if you feel he's ready. Take a weekend and see how he does. If he's not receptive don't get upset or put pressure on him because most boys don't train until after they are 3.

Do you think I should just wait till he does it on his own since I know he knows whats going on? What are your potty training must knows if you dont mind sharing??

No, I would give it a shot because he may be ready.
The only advice I have is to not stress about it too much. With my first son I put so much pressure on us for the first two weeks. He was peeing in the toilet but never told me when he had to go. He was only going bc I was always putting him on the toilet. After two torturous weeks I put the diaper back on him. A month later he didn't want to wear his diaper so I told him fine - then he goes on the toilet. He was trained right away. When they are ready it's really not that hard.

Re: I need some potty training insight....
Same with DS as Diana.....he would go because I brought him. Pooping was because we kept a close eye & ran him to the potty.
But within 2 weeks it just clicked!!
DS was a few weeks past his 3rd Bday & we just took away the pullups & dealt with a few accidents!

Re: I need some potty training insight....
I would give it a shot, I'd try a reward system, we did a sticker chart, and also put him in undewear and only use the pull-ups for bed time/naps. He sounds like he is on the right track. When they are ready it will be so quick and easy.

I would take away the pull-ups. I learned with my first that they prolong the process. He sounds like he's ready.

Re: I need some potty training insight....
Thank you for the advice. I don't want to pressure hi and the rewards work but when you stop the rewards?

Re: I need some potty training insight....
We are 7 weeks in & still on a reward system. This is more because he can hold it for HOURS without peeing! So while there have been no recent accidents he still needs a reminder to go.
BUT we have lengthen the sticker chart! Right now we are up to 2 stickers each morning he wakes dry & 1 sticker when he poops. I have him filling about 20 spots on the sticker chart. I am trying to change to the reward from a a small toy (we did Thomas trains & Cars 2 cars for a while) to a book! Fill 20 spots...he gets a reward!

I do something similar. Peeing gets 1 sticker, poop gets 2 but he doesn't poop on the potty yet. He also gets two m&ms. A full chart got him matchbox cars.
Really underwear is the way to go...pull ups are too absorbent.

Re: I need some potty training insight....
He sounds like he was doing well! I would say sit down and give him some incentives for getting rid of the pulls ups. Then maybe come up with some small gifts (coloring books, book, ring pop) and say if you stay dry for 1 day you get x, 3 days you get x etc and then I told DD that she could go to the store and pick out one toy under $20. She really wanted a baby doll. For her - we are supposed to leave on a cruise and you can't go into the pool on the ship if you are not potty trained they don't allow swimmies. So every day she is still saying let me see the pool!
DD#2 wanted to take gymnastics but I told her she had to be potty trained as they don't take children in diapers - that and she really WAS ready worked for us. She got a book she wanted, some coloring books (dollar store) and at the end of the week went to the disney store and picked out a princess doll she wanted. She is very proud of her toy.
I find that pulls ups are good only to get them started - then they became a crutch for us.
Etd to add I also did one mini m&m for pee and 2 for poop. After we finished I did extend it for a few days - but then weaned them off. It just helped with the incentive. But by that point they were so proud they didn't want to stop.

Re: I need some potty training insight....
I was going to say bring back the reward chart.
We started w/ 6-7 sticker spots then moved up to about 15-20. At some point, DS didn't ask for the stickers anymore.
We started with a big prize then just a little matchbox car for every completed chart.
