I need advice...
There is this BIG dispute going on at work. We have a union that hasnt gotten us a raise in approx. a yr and a half. They hand us colorful pages telling us what there attempts have been but no success. Anyhow, its been stressful for many to work without a raise where it has gotten nasty even within the people who belong to the Union. Some tried to drop out but they said the only was is to have 96 percent. So then starts the rally including one yesterday on a company event. I have a baby who is 11 months old and I can not attend rallys in rainstorms and I cant stay after work for 5 hrs to discuss etc... IMO...isnt that what they get paid to do anyhow? Well now they have people calling others names etc... i just got back from the babies dr and on my machine is some girl from the union (like we are best friends) telling me how wonderful it went, and shes giving me a t-shirt to wear on wed when we sit in the parking lot and rally. Ummm...hello...I still have a baby to pick up. There answer..."bring the baby". In the cold/rain? I cant believe they now brought this into my home. This is ridiculous. At what point does this become harrassment? i mean, i want a raise but I dont want to be name called, called at my home, and looked down upon. This is getting too nasty. Also, another co-worker who hasnt gone either asked ...how are we supposed to get to our car on wed when they are rallying? what am I supposed to do?

don't park in the lot that morning. walk around the block and go get your kid. Some people have no clue what responsibility is!! I understand the need to rally....but if your life doesn't allow for then that's that!!

This is probaby not what you want to hear but...
My DH is in a union - he said that when contract negotiations get to the point you described all members that enjoy the benefits of being in the union need to pull together and sometimes make personal sacrifices for the sake of the union. He went on to say that some sort of participation is expected - i.e. if the sit in goes for 4 hours and you can only stay for 1 - that's ok.
As for the calling, he said that you CAN ask them to stop calling you but that would send a the message that you don't want to be involved.
