I LOVE Hotwire
I originally booked a room through the hotel website for an event we have next weekend. The group rate was $160 with tax. I checked hotwire, matched up the ammenities, stars and ratings from tripadvisor to make sure it was the correct hotel. I was 99.9 % sure it was the correct one. Went ahead with the purchase and voila...got the room for $83 with tax

Pretty much except you don't name the price, the price comes up for you. Then once you pay, they give you the name of the hotel. I have used it in the past also. I was just super excited that it happened to the actualy hotel I NEED this time around

what if it turns out to be a hotel you do not want to stay at - can you just cancel?

I love Hotwire too.... I've gotten great deals from there every time I've used it.
I was able to get room at a hotel in Newport, RI for $130/night when it was going for $209/night on the hotel's website.
