Re: I knew it!
I am a first born.
I am not sure how much "smarter" I am than my siblings, but I definitely started talking, reading, and writing very early...and I know it was b/c my mom spent more time with me than she was able to with my other siblings...so the article and it's "nurture' argument could definitely have some merit.

Not true in my family.
However as a parent I could see how that could happen with the demands of a toddler & a newborn.

Re: I knew it!
IQ speaking- it's not true in my family- I have a higher IQ than my older sister. But we fit all the other theories- she is more driven, ambitious, hard working- i need attention, and am more th ecreative type (ima middle).

Re: I knew it!
THIS is definately true! At least for me. I am second born and I would rather not hand in something than to hand it in less than perfect. Also, I would rather not go somewhere than to arrive late.

Re: I knew it!
not true for my sister and I...I had a MUCH easier time getting through school. I was one of those people that got through high school without studying
...of course, I thought I could get through college the same way and BOMBED my first year!

I am second born, but I agree with what you said, and what they mention in the article
"He surmised that older children are showered with attention early in life and treated as leaders in the family. They are handed more responsibility after younger siblings are born and live with higher expectations from their parents."
I do see that happening. And objectively my older brother is more of a success than I am, though our IQs are identical.
