I still remember the look on GW Bush's face on 9/11 when his Chief of Staff whispered in his ear that the 2nd tower at WTC was hit and America was under attack. He just sat there staring into space dumbfounded. I will never forget THAT image!
I dont think that is really fair. He was in front of children and was also on live television. Thats not easy news to receive, even for the President.
And FTR, I am not, nor was I ever, a Bush fan. But I applaud him for how well he handled the immediate days following 9-11.

Re: I just gotta ask(Osama/Obama related)
I know I should, but I kind of can't let this go...
Republicans (and pseudo-Republicans) are going out of their way to issue statements congratulating OBAMA on this. In addition to the Bush statement we all saw aired almost immediately following the announcement:
Former Vice President **** Cheney declared, “The administration clearly deserves credit for the success of the operation.” New York’s former mayor, Rudolph W. Giuliani, said, “I admire the courage of the president.” And Donald J. Trump declared, “I want to personally congratulate President Obama.” Source: NY Times Article: Obama Finds Praise, Even from Republicans
People who rail against this man and everything he stands for day in, day out - even THEY are giving him credit. It astounds me that some can be so blinded by what I can only assume is hatred for our President that they cannot see how important he was in all of this
LMAO - that would be D!ck Cheney

I agree.
I'm tired of hearing so much hate and negativity towards our President with EVERYTHING he does. If he steps left he gets reemed for not stepping right.
For a few minutes people can't let their difference go and just applaud a job well done? Be proud to be an American...leave all the negativity behind.

Yeah, I'm with you on this. No one ever expected to hear this. Even if he had intel before that we could be attacked, still shocking.

President should always get some blame and some credit for the things that happen on their watch.
But I'd really like to see the Navy get 95% of the praise here, it was their men that pulled this off. They go through some brutal training to accomplish tasks like this!

Re: I just gotta ask(Osama/Obama related)
I read on CNN that they have been tracking the courier that lead them to him since 2007. These things take time and there should be congrats being given out to a lot of folks. Obama included. But I have to agree with the previous poster that the Navy should be top of the list. This was a dangerous mission for those guys and they pulled it off beautifully!!!

Re: I just gotta ask(Osama/Obama related)
I don't really blame Bush for not running around like his hair was on fire on 9/11 in front of children and on live TV. I'm not sure what people expected of him at that moment. I completely disagree with the Iraq war and a lot of things the Bush administration did, but I don't fault him for that moment.
The intelligence about the courier came our of REGULAR interrogation techniques, not from torture, though it was from someone who had been waterboarded in the past. I don't think it really gives us any vindication on the "enhanced interrogation techniques" front.

ITA with you. I never voted for Bush and didn't think he did a good job- but I can't hold that against him. I was teaching in NYC that day and was asked not to tell my class, but I was too stunned to do more than stumble through the rest of my lesson. I can't imagine being in a leadership role and getting unexpected news like that.

Re: I just gotta ask(Osama/Obama related)
President Obama is being credited because as president, he is Commander in Chief of U.S. armed forces. (Whoever is president at any given time is commander in chief as well.) The U.S. military cannot arbitrarily make moves without the president's say-so or go-ahead.
