I just don't understand...
Seriously, how on earth are we going to make it? I don't know how we are going to survive sometimes as humans. The planet is falling to $h!t, people are throwing dogs off of bridges, kids are killing each other...what the he!! is going on? 
Sorry, just having a day where hope and faith are not winning.

 And to top it all off, Jordans book "Crystal" is the top selling title in the UK, ahead of all the books on the prestigious Booker Prize List this year! People are just getting stupider and stupider

We're doing a lot better than WWII Germany, the Crusades, the Black Plague, Salem witch trials, apartheid, etc., etc. Humans and Earth have an amazing ability to weather any storm.
We just think things are worse than before because we know more, and hear more stories.
We'll be fine...

I honestly dont think the Earth is going to make it much longer. All the weather wierdness lately (80 degrees in October? The warmest Columbus day in recent history???, meanwhile it was snowing in northern California?)
makes me completely believe in Al Gore, that Global warming will get us all, that we are headed for another Ice Age, and there is just more $hit coming.
I dont think enough people care.
And I dont think humans, as a race, are getting MORE intelligent, so the future of humanity does not look so bright to me.
considering 9 of the "inconvenient truths" were proven to be incorrect, don't be placing all your eggs in Al Gore's basket!!
i think every generation thinks this about the future at one point. i also think todays media loves to report all the bad stuff and not enough good stuff. we are all pessimists, not enough optimists.

Agreed.
A few months ago, i was talking with my MIL and she was telling us about how right before she was about to give birth to my BIL was when jfk, martin luther king jr, and rfk were all assasinated... and she couldn't help but feel guilty and scared at the idea of bringing a child into a world like that.
And, now he's fine and has 4 kids of his own.
each generation & species has its battles to fight... they've always been there, and they always will.
