I have PCOS

I cried like a baby when I found out.

I know it's not a so-called "death sentence" when it comes to getting pregnant, but talk about making your chances that much harder. Not only do I have this to contend with, I also have an underactive thyroid that throws things off.

Even though we haven't really jumped in head-first with TTC just yet, I'm really bummed out. I guess this explains why, after 4 months of using the CBEFM, I haven't gotten one peak reading--I'm not o'ing. Just needed to vent to someone. Chat Icon

Re: I have PCOS

Ok you are allowed to be sad and let this process for a while. It is natural. I dont have PCOS but I too felt like a deer in headlights once I found out that conception wasn't going to happen without assistance. Quite a few women here are being treated for PCOS and many before then have gone on to have wonderful, healthy children. You will be there too. We are here for you!Chat Icon

Re: I have PCOS

I know how devastating the diagnosis is. I was diagnosed with that, and then over a year later they found a tumor on my pituitary gland. I was a hormonal mess. But I am proof there is hope! Listen to your doctors and always tell them about every little symptom. I happened to mention one stupid little thing and the doctor suddenly changed course on how to treat me. Now I'm ready to welcome my baby boy any day now.

Re: I have PCOS

Please vent away. When I found out I had PCOS I was so upset. First I found out I had clotting disorders, then auto immune and the icing on the cake was the PCOS. Please don't give up hope. I was put on Metformin last November and got my bfp in April. Met is not an easy drug but it worked for me. Good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I too have PCOS and hypothyroidism. I really started watching my carb intake, and was supposed to start clomid this summer. Well I ovulated in Feb. for probobly the first time since I've been married. We got preggers in Feb. and I'm now 23 weeks. We say it was a miracle for us. You never know what is going to happen.Chat Icon

Re: I have PCOS

Well as you know I have it too, and I was really devastated when I was diagnosed. I'm glad you have answers though and trust me there are so many things they can do these days to help us get pg. I'm happy that I found out when I did and that and I'm getting the help I need...and there are SO MANY success stories. But believe me I know the feeling and if you need to talk feel free to FM me. I'm sure your doctor will put you on the right path and you will get your BFP! Baby dust to all of us! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have PCOS too- so please don't feel alone! I found out when I was 19 or 20 and ignored it for years b/c it was just easier than dealing with it. I'm so sorry I did- maybe I'd be a mom already if I had just taken the bull by the horns and dealt with it.
Please let us know if you need us! We're all here for yOU! Chat Icon

Re: I have PCOS

Thanks to all of you for all of your help and advice. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one going through this. Thank God for LIF...if I hadn't posted what was going on, I would have NEVER suspected PCOS. So for that, I have so many people to thank!

PCOS was officially confirmed today through bloodwork and sonogram. I won't lie, I'm really bummed about it. But now I have to get to the business of managing this.

I'm glad to know I have ladies to talk to who are going through this. I'm lucky to have all of you. Chat Icon

That is strangeChat Icon In the infertility world PCOS is one of the "easiest" things to fix. There are also medicines for underactive thyroid. I woulod get myself to an RE so that they can monitor me and get me on the right medicines. Good luck

I have also read in a study that clomid alone, without Metformin may be effective to treat PCOS and since you are not trying now that might me a good route to take to see if it makes you O. There are barely any side effects on Clomid(for me anyway)

Re: I have PCOS

I also have PCOS. I was diagnosed in June and have been on Metformin for about 6 weeks now. No ovulation yet, but the Met has also not been terrible for me. I was expecting the worse because I also have IBS... I have had my days, but all in all it is ok.
My doctor wants me to have 3 months on the Met to see if it makes me ovulate. I go back in early Sept. to reevaluate the situation.
I have not gone to see a RE yet, but for now my OB seems to be handling it well. We'll see what happens.

Re: I have PCOS

Sorry to hear that.Chat Icon Chat Icon I know having an under active thyroid doesn't help, but did it really give you problems? I was diagnosed with it also about two years ago, I was just wondering?
