I have NO idea how to bathe him--stinky boy!

So I got the whole washing his hair down, but we attempted to put him in the tub thingy last night and he went bonkers so I had Jim hold him and I just washed him down w a wash cloth. How do I soap this baby up????

Nancy, he will cry at the beginning but will get used to the water and I'm sure he will eventually love it! Put him in the tub holding his head with one hand and soap him up with the other. What kind of tub do you have? I made a big deal out of baths every night and DS loves it! Its a ritual for him!

Re: I have NO idea how to bathe him--stinky boy!

Luce LOVES the water, but it needs to be a nice warm temp and the ambient air needs to be warm too.

I usually hold him in my arms in football position and wash his hair first.

after his hair is washed and rinsed I put him in the water, feet first so if it's too warm or too cold I'll know b/f he is completely wet.

if he seems happy I'll put in all the way in. I hold him in the water and wash all of his 2000 parts with a warm soapy rag. I don't lather up his body...he's too tiny to be that dirty.

I pay extra attention to his bum and under his neck and impressive jowls Chat Icon but I definitely don't go crazy with the soap yet.

what kind of tub do you have?

we have a euro tub for the bathtub and a smaller blue tub (with a built in thermometer that I love..Luce's ideal tem is 97 degrees) for sink baths.

Put a warm washcloth over him while he is in the bath. Mine screamed every time we gave them a bath, and then a friend of mne told me this trick, and the loved the bath ever since.

I would adjust the temp...if it was too cold, he'd be miserable!!! I thought almost 100 degrees was nuts! until dh pointed out that that was about the same temperature as my womb Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I have NO idea how to bathe him--stinky boy!

I have the hammock tub too. Honestly my kids are hit or miss with the bath. Sometimes they scream bloody murder and some times they are totally calm. If they scream I just do it fast!

I make sure to put a warm wet washcloth over their bellies so that keeps them warmer. I put a little soap on my hands and handwash everything but the butt and the junk (I use a washcloth for that since it needs a good scrub LOL). Then I use a new washcloth, wet it and squeeze the water out of it on them to rinse them off.

Without fail they freak when I am drying and lotioning. They don't like being nude Chat Icon

I went out and got the bathtub with the "hammock" b/c I found DD to move alot and I was afraid. She HATED being on the sling. IMO they do not sit in water so they are freezing. I hold her like a football with one hand under her armpit and use the other hand to wash. Also keep the washcloth on them like the other girls said.

Re: I have NO idea how to bathe him--stinky boy!

I the beginning I used to give him a lot of sponge baths and would litterally wash his hair and do everything right on the changing table. I would bring a container of warm wather and lay him on a towel and do it all. Now that he is bigger a use his fisherprice tub in the sink (I hate the sling). I just hold him with onehand at all times and do everything esle with the other. It gets easy with time lnd when they are a little biggerChat Icon

Re: I have NO idea how to bathe him--stinky boy!

I had the tub with the hammock - and actually Jeanine on here recommended this which helped immensely - put a washcloth over the belly so he doesn't feel exposed and run the cup of water over him like that as well so he always feels warm - he loved it. He was never a fan of getting his hair washed (and still isn't - he has a TON of hair) but he loved bath time after a few months!

I too had the tub with the hammock/recliner thingy. It wasn't too hard. Liam loved it.

we would use 2 washcloths.....one on his chest and one over his peesh in case of any fountain action!

And keep the water flowing over him so it doesn't get cold....I would shush Gavin a lot at that age too, it was what soothed him best. He eventually got used to it and loved it....

Re: I have NO idea how to bathe him--stinky boy!

man, did I used to hate bathtime!!

I would def get a tub with the sling thing-- so, the baby is not necessarily submerged in the water. You can also do sponge baths until he gets a little used to being washed, then upgrade to the infant tub.

Now I just get in the regular tub with her-- and despite me having to take off everything and get wet-- I still prefer this to the beginning!!

It gets so much easier even in the infant tub-- and eventually they will like it! Just make sure it's warm in the room and the water is the right temp so he is comfortable.

Re: I have NO idea how to bathe him--stinky boy!

Kaydyn hated baths in the beginning and also HATED the sling for the tub. We had the newborn/toddler tub and would just put her on the slanted side (Newborn side) and cover her with a warm washcloth so she wouldn't get cold. We used J&J soap and washed her quickly until she started enjoying her baths more.

I bathed them in my sink in some cheap Safety First tub with no special equipment. I have a sprayer option on my sink so I would keep that running and shower it over them every 30 seconds or so. Make sure you check the temp every time. They loved it

with all 3 of my kids, for the first month of their lives, i used the sponge bath in the bottom of the kitchen sink. they are too little and floppy for me to put them in the tub thing. the sponge holds enough water to keep them warm while you wash them down.

Chat Icon honestly, we had the sling in the tub the first 3 months- and ds didnt mind if i gave him a bath- but screamed when dh did- which was tough cause dh had to give him baths after the dr appts...

is his chest cold? they make a bath luve. its a wash cloth-that goes over their chest to take the chill off... perhaps a yellow ducky would distract him too

Re: I have NO idea how to bathe him--stinky boy!

at first we were sponge bathing him in the kitchen and he cried bloody murder...but after a few times he got used to it..especially when DH would hold him under the faucet. it seemed like he didnt know what the hell to make of it. but then he liked it.

now we use the infant tub in our bathroom and it has a little ramp thing to lay them on so he's not totally submerged. I wash him while DH pours the water over him continously..he likes it now. he cries as we're putting him in, but then he stops once the water starts flowing on him.

keep trying...he'll get used to it.
