I have a q about TTC and the dentist...
So a few weeks ago I went to the dentist for a complete exam and it had been a LONG time since I had xrays and I wanted the dentist to go ahead with them since I was worried i might have cavities and didn't want to start a pregnancy and have to do dental work. But now I am stressing about it. We are planning on starting to TTC after my next AF (in a week or two) so there would have been only one month and one AF since the xrays - do u think this could be bad?

Nope.
Xrays can only be harmful to a fetus, not to your body in the hopes of conceiving a fetus. Not to worry, you're all set.

Ok so don't think I am crazy but it doesn't stay in your system or affect your eggs? I remember when I had to have a chest xray when sick the OB wouldn't let me BF for 24 hours...

there are new guidelines and some obgyn's are having their pregnant patients go to a dentist for a clean bill of health due to related problems with our teeth and gums during pg. it is completely safe to do treatment and take xrays. you just need to tell the dentist so they double your apron. the sheet that your obgyn gives you tells you this too what you can have done- fillings, root canals, 3 cleanings during the pg. hopefully all of your obgyn's are up to date with continuing education courses and make their patients aware of this. good luck and dont be alarmed. I took many many xrays on patients ( I am a dental hygienist) and my daughter both of them are A-ok. and I did not wear a lead apron would just wait the 3 seconds the radiologist technician said was the clearance before walking back into the room. we had our machines checked. but it is extremely important to have your teeth cleaned and cared for during your pg's. hth
edited to say yes medical xrays are completely different. they are extremeley high in radiation. dental xrays have the same radiation as the ray of sun and the exposure you get to the utility lines very very low.

I actually went to the dentist recently and mentioned that I wanted to get whatever needed to be done now before we TTC and he told me that so long as I didn't need any MAJOR dental work while pregnant, it was perfectly fine to see the dentist and be treated during pregnancy. Xrays is obviously something to avoid, but if you were not pg when you had the dental xrays, you are ok as mentioned above.
