I have a confession.......
I am really jealous of the moms-to-be that can work from home. Please tell me there are other girls out there that can't work from home. For some it just seems so easy 'The doctor told me to work at home when it got to be too much.' Can I have those jobs? I'm just having a pity party, especially because I hate my job so much.
But it's all going to change because we're winning the Mega Millions tonight!

Re: I have a confession.......
I wish I could. The worst part is that my Cie is capable of doing it but since it costs them to do so... only "managers" are allowed.

Re: I have a confession.......
I know.. Even some PG women in HR asked for it and were told no. It would be bad for their "internal" customers' relations. Funny part is that one of the HR woman covers another state... so she can't "see" them anyway.

Re: I have a confession.......
One way you might be able to help your company allow you to work from home is to tell them that you will NOT charge them anything. I paid my own working from home bills for nearly a year until my boss offered to pay my business line phone bill. But I pay for all of my own supplies (printer paper, ink etc..), my cell phone bill, my Internet connection. It does NOT cost my boss extra for me to work from home. Even my phone bill is an MCI neighbor plan for less than $80 a month.

Unless the entire TV station moves in with me, it's impossible.

Re: I have a confession.......
Stinks you can't it is the best thing ever. Although not as easy as people think. You have to have a real discipline to do it. I have friends from work that tried it and just can't get anything done.
But I pay all my bills although they are just bills I would have. I don't have a seperate phone line and use my home internet connection.

The thing is my job is already web-based so it would not be a difficult transaction.

Re: I have a confession.......
I hear you. I know that even if I ask to work from home I will be told no, as an associate in my dept asked when she was on maternity, and was told no.
Though our IT dept has told us it is possible, just that our director doesn't want to let us.
Whatever.

Re: I have a confession.......
I worked from home for 8 weeks in 2005 when I broke my ankle. I requested to be able to work from home at least 1 day per week in months 7 and 8 and then decide on a day to day basis in month nine if I would come into the city or work at home, still waiting for an answer. It's like pulling teeth but in reality there is absolutely no reason for me to be here ever. I work 100% over the phone and email.

Re: I have a confession.......
I'm a special ed teacher and definintely can't work from home...I am lucky if I get to sit at all during the day and usually (due to horrible staffing issues) have to give up my lunch so my staff can have lunch...needless to say my ankles are looking a lot like sausages by the time I get home in the evening!

Re: I have a confession.......
I'm a 2nd grade teacher so working from home is impossible. I would do anything to be able to stay home with my kids. My school district doesn't seem to do job sharing anymore either. I have a friend that it could work out great with but I don't see that happening. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my job but I LOVE my kids more.

Definitely can't work from home (I work in a school and certainly don't want to take my students home with me!)

I hear ya! But even when you are showing, don't expect people to offer their seats.... It has only happened ONCE for me and I'm 31 weeks pregnant (and believe me, I open my coat and make it REAL obvious that I am preggo...)
I work from home two days a week (which is something that was offered when I took the job...)
My boss offered to let me work an extra day from home after the baby comes.
I'm VERY grateful! But I will need to hire someone to help me on the days I am home -- there's no way I could watch and baby and do my job.

Re: I have a confession.......
I will be switching work after the baby is born so it won't matter afterall.
I can work from home with my "other career". I just got my license for the state of NY to practice massage therapy.
I have been working on this "switch" for 3 years now.

Re: I have a confession.......
I can't work from home. My job involves a lot of private personal information - I work in med mal insurance - so I deal with people's medical records and all the legal paperwork.
Although we started going paperless back in December it is only for new files - we have no access to those files at home for security reasons and the files I have at the office are huge and not easy to carry around - they are also not allowed to leave the office.
I laughed when my doctor told me oh just tell them the last few months that they have to move you to the LI office (I work in the NYC office) - as much as I love my job - they are not going to move my 200+ files and medical records to LI for a month or two of work.
