I hate LIPA
I hate how completely inaccurate LIPA's estimate usage is. This month, our electric bill was more than double what it usually is. 
We can't read the meter ourselves either since we live in a two-family house and don't have access to our meter.
It's not the end of the world - just really irritating. I expected it to go up with the ACs and all - but not to more than double!

We have the estimated usage and it is always higher in the summer months.

How do you do that? What does that mean?
It's not like my electric bill is ever that high - I just hate every once in a while getting slapped with a bill that's double! It bugs my OCD!

balanced billing is GREAT!!
I love that we pay the same amt all year round....so during the summer, when we use the ac...it doesnt kill us
and usually the last payment of the cycle is a little lower....

I agree with balanced billing. We have done this for over 10 years and it is great.
The last 2 months our bill actually went down from $92 to $81!!

We don't do balanced billing because of the line of work my DH is in (he's a carpenter and certain months he brings home the bank and others he could be laid off). We pay more when we can which works out better for us,
but I think balanced billing is great!

OMG Keyspan is worse.
We aren't even living in our house and we got a $97 bill from LIPA. We did get it fixed and it was actually $8.47. You should request for them to come and read the meter instead of estimating it.

If you live in a two family house make sure that you aren't paying for the other family's electricity. That happens sometimes.
