I finally did IT! I became
An organ donor.
I've been wanting to do it for a while.
I guess I was a little nervous not sure why but I was.
I am watching extreme makeover home edition and it is a repeat. The family's 16 year old died and was an organ donor. He helped save 3 people including a 19 year old girl.
I feel good. PROUD OF MYSELF!

My cousin was the youngest recepient of a double lung transplant at Duke in 2001. She was waiting for a 2nd transplant this year but sadly, she didn't make it. But it's because people like you sign their driver's licenses!

Remember though, it's not just signing. you have to speak to your family about your wishes. It's NY State law, regardless of what your license says, you cannot be a donor unless someone in your family consents.

I became one just this month when I changed my license. I think its an awesome thing to do. And it's better to make the decision ahead of time so that your loved ones don't have to.

This is exactly right - even if you do sign the back of your license, ultimately it is the decision of your family members, and if they say they do not want to do it, their wishes will override that signature.

I registered with NYS. They have post cards for you to send out to your family and I did!
