I feel like pulling my hair out

I feel like pulling my hair out

We've been doing so well with bedtime. I rock Maddie, sing to her, and she goes in her crib (no more bouncy seat, or so I thought). Last night she didn't go to sleep until 1:30 am and refused to sleep in her crib. I slept on the couch and she was in her bouncy seat so my DH could get some sleep. And she woke up at 8. I know 6 1/2 hours straight is good but she always goes back down after eating. Now she's awake. I have such a sore throat and headache. Sometimes I really feel like I'm not cut out for this. Sorry, just needed to vent.

Your DD is little, right? Like 2 months old? They are still so unpredicatable at that point that you can start a routine, but you really can't get that upset if she doesn't stick to itChat Icon

Hang in there, I know when you don't feel good it's torture. She is still making her schedule at that age, I'm sure tonight will be a better night. Definitely do a bath before bed, it helps! Chat Icon

Re: I feel like pulling my hair out

For us, the first two - three months were so hard. It was all so new and we were so very tired. I remember feeling the exact same way that you do so I want to give you lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon and tell you that it will get better. She will get into a routine and eventually she will stick to it. It's all a matter of time...not easy to hear when you are exhaused (or sick) but hang in there and I promise you that in a few more months you will get more sleep and forget these times. Chat Icon

For now...try your best to keep with the routine - you are teaching her no matter how many times she strays. BUT when she has a hard time...do whatever you have to do to get her to sleep. At the end of the day the sleep is more important than the routine or the method. She needs it to grow.

Re: I feel like pulling my hair out

See this is why I love this site. You girls reassure me that I'm not doing anything wrong. My mom makes comments like, "She's 10 weeks, she should be starting to settle." or, "If she took the bottle, I would take her 1 night a week for you." Plus my sister has a baby 5 days older than Maddie and she sleeps 11-7 every night. And my mom informs me of her sleeping patterns everyday. So I guess I her comments in my head and I
A. Feel like I"m doing something wrong and

B. Wishing I could get some help.

Anyway, I always feel better after talking to you guys. Thanks so much!

You are not doing anything wrong!!! Not for a second! Chat Icon Every baby is different. I would have a very hard time believing your mom if she said that you and your sister were exactly the same as babies. Chat Icon

That's great that your niece sleeps from 11 - 7 but she's not Maddie. Maddie has to march to the beat of her own drum.

Re: I feel like pulling my hair out

DD is 8 weeks. Last night she went to bed at 1 am, night before 12 am, night before that 3 am!! She has her own schedule and she sleeps everywhere...chair, swing, my bed...just not her cradle or crib.

I thought I was doing something wrong. But I realize every baby is different.

I'm sure it will work out for us eventually. Chat Icon

awww
its ok -- like everyone has said - babies march to the beat of their own drum --- i know that you said that DD did not sleep in her crib last night ---- have you tried swaddling her...

my DD is 12 weeks and will only sleep swaddled --- so swaddled she goes in as tight as possible and it changes her sleeping from 5-6 hours to about 10- --------

maybe this would help?

feel better!

Re: I feel like pulling my hair out

Have you tried a Miracle Blanket? My DD was born on Thanksgiving and the first few weeks she hated it but after one crazy night we tried it again and now she has been sleeping from 7pm-7am which is the same as my 2 and 1/2 year old which is my only saving grace with Dh away and no family nearby.
And DD is colicky and now on lactose free formula and a small amount of zantac daily so she is really fuzzy and rarely does more then a small catnap during the day.
Also I put DD is a size 2 diaper at night so it absorbs more and use white noise.

Also if your sick she could have an ear infection, two of my friends babies born right around the same time already have and I know from my son that if they are sleeping well and then have a few crappy nights its normally due to that!

Feel better and I agree with the other poster your Mom should know better then to compare the babies especially since she has more then 1 child herself.
My DS and DD are complete opposites
