I feel like I missed out
Long story short... I was 10 days late and sched to be induced at LIJ May 28th. B4 they even gave me anything (besides the IV) the doc said I was already contracting every min to min in a half... but never felt it. The baby's HR dropped and the shot to get his HR up didn't work so they rushed me to the OR and put me under. When I woke up an hour later the nurses had told me it's a boy and his name b/c DH told them. DH got him 10 mins after my surgery. I'm thrilled the Doc made the right decision and my boy is happy and healthy, but I never got to see him being born or even hold him the first day b/c i was so out of it. I guess I pictured it delivering Mason and I would hold him first and say his name. It was almost like falling asleep preggo and then waking up and not preggo anymore with a baby boy. Becareful what you wish for b/c I kept telling everyone... if there's a way they could knock me out and wake me when the baby is here I'd do it. LOL!

Re: I feel like I missed out
First, many I am really sorry that your L&D experience was not what you had foreseen for yourself and that you were not able to hold your DS immediately after he was born. Second, your feelings are completely normal. I like many other women had to come to terms with the fact that DSs birth was not what I had originally planned. He was a c/s. I cried when I had to have the c/s. With time I sincerely hope that you are able to come to terms with your birth story b/c in the end all that truly matters is a healthy baby and a healthy mommy.

I've come to terms with it and understand what they did was necessary for me and the baby... just think about it once in a while. Thanks again for the hugs and thoughts. The good thing is we're all healthy and doing well. Thanks ladies!

Re: I feel like I missed out
Im so sorry your birth experience wasn't as planned.
My sister also had to be put under for an emergency c/s, they didn't have time for the epi. She felt very much like you do, for a very long time. She has since had two more children and was wide awake for both of their births.

Same exact scenario happened to me with DC #2...very surreal. I was dissapointed, too. At least your ordeal was fast...it too me 11 hours to fully dilate...only to find out I'd need a C-section. I was exhausted!
Sorry you missed out on the whole birthing experience, but glad to hear everything went smoothly.

Re: I feel like I missed out
I kinda understand how you feel. While not fully out , I had a c/s and regret it and always will. I have no choice due to a cervical surgery I had, I cannot deliver Naturally , and well if I could, they wont even let me try this time around b/c Im having twins and the risk is too high. Basically I feel cheated of a vaginal birth. And I wanted it so badly.
Your situation is a bit different, but I can totally understand how you feel and why youthink of it. It is OK to feel the way you do

Re: I feel like I missed out
I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! I was checking out of the hospital after the resident misdiagnosed my stomach pain....the dr. rushed in to tell me I was having the baby ASAP!!! And to boot they had to put me under and DH wasn't in the room I was beside myself upset. We didn't know the sex and I had a birth plan (not a good idea)! Long story short, I was put under, woke up and asked the nurse whether I had a boy or girl, the nurse brought the baby out to the hallway to my husband...NOT at all as I planned!!! I still have days where I feel very sad that I missed out on the "normal birth". I never once had a contraction and totally missed hearing them say "it's a girl". But I try to tell myself everyday that I am SO lucky the dr. caught my condition..I had HELLP syndrome, a very severe form of precclamsia.
I hear where you are coming from, it sucks!! But we can't go back, and we have a healthy child, in the end that is all that matters, but I feel where you are coming from

Re: I feel like I missed out
I am so sorry that happened to you
While not as severe as your experience, I know how you feel in a way. I really wanted a vaginal birth & DD ended up being a c-section. To make matters worse, the doc on call that I ended up with was a complete d*ck head & would not allow my husband (who was just my boyfriend back then) to be in the room. Basically, he was picking on us for being young & unmarried. He gave me the choice between having my mother present or being alone. Needless to say, the images I had of myself & my baby's father cooing over our new little miracle in a peaceful delivery room were shot to hell. I didn't get to hold my daughter for 12 hours & I was not there to see her daddy look at her for the first time. I had a VBAC with my second child which was almost every bit the experience I hoped for. It helped me a long way in healing from the trauma of my first.

Yup... same exact thing, but like you said... our children are healthy and the doc made the best decision. DH was not allowed in the room so when I got wheeled away it was sad to see him left behind. When I was under they gave Mason to DH 10 mins after the surgery and I was still under. We didn't know the sex. Good thing DH didn't change the name on me.
Thanks again ladies for listening!

Re: I feel like I missed out
I had the same experience and always said I was so glad I knew what I was having I had his name picked out and was ready for him because otherwise I would have been so ****** I had a baby and EVERYONE else but me would have known what I had way before I did and I did all the work-LOL Anyway you never know what is in store but I am just glad the babies are healthy in the end! I understand your thoughts though I have them sometimes too-hey maybe next time I will see my child born!

My situation wasn't nearly as bad but I do look back on that day and wish some things would have been different.
