I failed
I failed my 1 hour glucose test...I have to take the 3 hour. They said normal was around 135-140...and I was 153.
That stuff you have to drink was so gross...I don't know how I'm going to do a 3 hour test. Can someone explain to me how the 3 hour test works....do you drink 1 drink every hour for 3 hours...do they take your blood every hour for 3 hours? Please advise...I'm so upset.

I failed too. I have my 3 hour tomorrow a.m. so I'll have to let you know how it goes. When I was pregnant with DD, I also failed the 1 hour and had to take the 3 hour. From what I remember, you only have to drink the stuff once and then get blood taken every hour for 3 hours.

I failed my one hour too.
The three hour isn't that bad. You go in and they draw blood then give you that drink to drink within 5 minutes. You have to keep in down. After that, you go and they draw blood every hour for three hours.
I passed my 3 hour with no problem. Try not to worry too much!

Yup, you only drink it once. Try not to stress out too much, my doctor told me that most women fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 hour, which is what happened to me.

Drink a lot of water before hand. I didn't think I was going to be able to keep that stuff down either because it's on an fasted stomach. They also won't let you drink water once you are there.

With my test, I could only have water. Not once I was at the lab, but before hand.

my doc said that 1 hour empty stomach was fine- but I am going in at 9 am fasted from the night before for my 1 hour- hopefully that will do the trick.

Take a straw with you. I have taken this test countless times, I am an old pro. Put the straw at the back of your throat and suck form there. You don't taste as much of the yucky stuff that way. Also do not do the straw technique if you have gag reflex problems, otherwise you will just barf it all up, don't want that .HTH!!!!

Don't sweat it - mine was not that bad. The drink is pretty much the same you had to drink at the 1 hour but more of it. Like those little mini soda bottles. You have to drink it in 5 minutes (so just gulp it). If you don't finish it in 5 minutes i heard they make you wait another hour and have to drink another one.
I was allowed to drink all the water i wanted up until the test. I could not drink it once i was at the test. I could not eat and my appt was at 7AM.
I ate something right before i went to bed so i was not starving. Then i went out at 10 and got lunch early.

I don't normally eat anything until about 9.30-10.00- never did good eating first thing in the AM.

I went in for the 1hr in the am after fasting and I failed...I also failed my 3 hr.

Just so you know, sometimes blood sugar can be high in the morning after not eating all night because blood sugar may drop in the middle of the night and the body responds by breaking down glycogen into glucose. Since the doctor said 1 hr empty stomach, maybe get up and eat something around 6 or 7 so that it's out of your system but you haven't gone TOO many hours without eating.
