i dont know whats going on - sleep
DS was the BEST sleeper from day 1! From day 1, he would only wake one maaaybe two times per night He was sleeping 6 hour stretches the first night home from the hospital
Two weeks ago, he started sleeping 830-630 but now, all of a sudden he is waking every few hours. He NEVER did this before - he is 15 weeks today
Last night he went down at 840 (no problems going down, he goes down semi-drowsy after a bottle and falls asleep within 5-7 mins.) At 12:45, he was up wiggling around, making noise, uncomfortable etc. He doesnt really cry, just whines and babbles and moves all over the place. We gave him his paci and he fell back to sleep until 2am. Same thing! We got him back down and he woke at 4 (we fed him) and he went back down until 6. Up at 6, same thing, wiggling, babbling, whining
Could it be teething? I gave him tyleonl at 1245 when he woke up thinking he was uncomfortable due to teething but I dont know
We have had 4 nights of this now and im beat. I am NOT used to this.
HELP! can i give him tylenol as a preventative measure if it is teething? Will that help him STTN again?

Re: i dont know whats going on - sleep
Karin,, my advice... if he isn't waking up crying.. leave him. If you are sleeping in the same room it stinks and it will wake you up be it doesn't sound like he is actually waking? Let him work it out. Of course if he is up crying you have to attend to him the way you are.. but just fussing..let him figure out how to get comfy again. KWIM?
Also.. I wouldn't give tylenol if you aren't sure he is teething at this point...if he is in pain...you'll know it.. it will be a cry and feverishly shoving things in his mouth. I would see if he will just doze back off to sleep without mommy intervention.
Also.. there is a dreaded 4 month sleep regression.. John actually went thru it at 6 months... hang in there.. you're doing great!

Re: i dont know whats going on - sleep
I wrote the SAME post about a month ago. Girls here suggested 4 month sleep regression. I'm pretty sure that's what it was as this week, she started STTN again (fingers crossed). Just something theey go through as they develop. It totally $ucks! and I know how you feel as I was at my wits end. I don't know if DD just got over it or if its because I started her on cereal. She gets a TBS for dinner and then a bottle. Then she'll sleep until 10ish and wake up and then she get's a 6 oz bottle with cereal. not sure if your DS is waking bc he's hungry..but I find DD sleeps better when her tummy is full.

i try so hard not to go in but it goes on forever last night i waited it out for 35 mins but i couldnt take it anymore, went in and gave him his paci, turned him to his side and he went back to sleep. Im pretty confident its the beginning of teething. He is drooling up a storm, hands are constantly in his mouth and he is now prefering his hands to the paci
how long do i let him whine, wiggle, thrash before going in to soothe him?

yeah it sounds like the sleep regression...they are developing motor skills and are more socially aware. you might just have to ride it out.

thanks diana. we will be starting cereal soon, 3 weeks so maybe that will help. i hope this doesnt go on until then
his tummy is full (i think). He gets a bottle before bed. he used to go until at least 4-6am. we feed him in the middle of the night if he wakes to eat (he crys if he is hungry). idk, im just tired

sounds like he may be teething..you could try the meds before he goes down but unless you see the gums turning whilte or raised..it's still early for it to be causing pain. KWIM.
As s*cky as it sounds.. id let him ride it out. You going in to give the paci and turn him over is stopping him from learing to do it himself. It's like cio but with out the crying.. but Karin. you are the mommy.. if you don't want him to ride it out.. don't!! Its totally up to you.. you do what makes you comfortable..!!

Re: i dont know whats going on - sleep
Around 4 months, their sleep patterns change - so they rotate between deep sleep and light sleep, more like an adult, whereas before, they were in deep sleep only which causes the regression.
I've read a lot of sleep books trying to find the right thing for DS.

ill look at his gums tonight but i dont think they are white or raised.

I had to ride it out with Reilly as well. Her habits changed but then would go back to normal and then change again. I think we are still going through that now but at least now I know it's teething. it will go back to normal.

Re: i dont know whats going on - sleep
i think it's the 4 month sleep regression as well
Sophia went through it from about 4 months to 7ish months, when we finally did CIO (best thing I ever did, BTW)
i agree, unless he's CRYING i'd let him fuss it out. you know he's not really hungry because he was making it for MUCH longer stretches w/o a bottle, KWIM?
hug him for me!! i'll see you sunday!
