I did something bad....
Even though the doctor told me that i couldn't eat any coldcuts, i was craving turkey so bad, so i went out out and got a huge turkey sandwich and ate it. Now I am making myself sick thinking that i could have harmed my baby! Do any of you still eat coldcuts?

Alot of people eat them. Some drs say it's ok, others say avoid it. I would say odds are it's fine. It's a personal choice.

me too!! i love hot dogs on the grill and everywhere i turn there is a hot dog on the grill.
i've had maybe 4 total over the course of the summer.
moderation is key.

I ate them a few times a week as long as you go to a reputable place and buy the good stuff but I heat it up to kill any bacteria and let it cool down doc said that it was fine and so did the nutrienist

as I progress in my pregnancy, I'm realizing that many of the dietary rules are a bit overkill.... coldcuts definitely being one of them.
a german girls confession:
I was in germany (aka the land of the pig) last week.... and I ate coldcuts without heating them (SHOCK!) until I was filled to the gills.
my gestational diabetes specialist (with whom I met prior to the trip) even conceded that the coldcut issue is only relavent when you're at a place that mishandles its meat and has a low turn-over.... she even nodded and told me that there are no issues like that in the EU... meat is much fresher there.
I think your fine.... it's one sandwich. I wouldn't do it with coldcuts purchased from a low turnover store, but some place with a higher turnover you'll be fine.
that being said, now that I'm back in NY, I'm heating up my ham at home again..... sigh.

Very true. For this particular subject(listeria) it is very uncommon. BUT is not really a matter of mederation. You could be the unlucky one and get it from one sandwich. As PP said-as long as you are at a reputable place that you know is busy and turns over their meat often you are probably fine. I have eaten cold cuts here and there

i eat cold cuts several times a week, have coffee once in a while, had a little feta cheese yesterday, ate hot dogs through out my pregnancy, eat tuna fish once in a while. Everything is absolutely fine with my baby and me. I really think that people over react, why make your life miserable, when pregnancy is hard to begin with. I say everything in moderation is fine.
