I cried like a little baby last night
When my MIL hopped in the car to catch her flight back to Israel
I know, I'm one of the craziest women on earth, because I truly love and adore my MIL, and it breaks my heart to think of all the wonderful memories Alex is missing with her Safta all the way in Israel.
Thankfully, she was here for almost 3 weeks, and had plenty of bonding time with the little monkey. Safta is convinced that Alex is the most beautiful, gifted child on the planet, despite all her crankiness
And, to Alex's credit, when we walked back in the house, and I started sobbing, she grabbed my face with both hands, and gave me a sweet kiss on the forehead and said "Mommy is sad"

Awwww...
Try to think of it this way...
You have a wonderful, caring MIL who flies over for three weeks to visit, help out and just hang out with Alex. She seems like such a warm Grandma. Unfortunately, not every child has such a loving relationship with their grandma, even those who live down the block. Of course, as a bonus you also get along well with her.
While Alex might not see her every day, she will remember her Safta's visits fondly.
Also, it's wonderful that we live in an age where air transport is so available and affordable. My Gram lived in Scotland and only saw me twice (my mom worked for American Airlines so she had an "in") before she passed

I love my MIL as well. DS does too. They are "snowbirds". I know it's not the same as leaving the country, but, when they do leave LI it is sad.

I can relate, although my IL's don't live overseas. I love my MIL too and I sob when she leaves, partly because we miss her and partly because I feel bad that she's not able to see DD more often.
