I CAN"T TAKE IT ANYMORE

So my DS has an ear infection and is on antibiotcs since last sun.

He felt hot to me so i took his temp...

99.9.

WHY DOES MY CHILD HAVE TEMPS THAT HIGH ALL THE TIME?

shouldn't it be much lower being on antibiotics?

I can't take all these fevers anymore Chat Icon

Re: I CAN"T TAKE IT ANYMORE

well to me 99.9 is not a fever. Noahs "normal" temp is about 99.6 or 99.7....The ped confirmed half of all kids have over a 99.5 standing temp... SO I would NOT worry about it.

I dont give tylenol till its over 100. 5-100.7 b/c of that.

you should ask your ped this. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I CAN"T TAKE IT ANYMORE

i would just think being on antibiotics would make a temp not be sooo high.Chat Icon

he started on Omniceff but that wasn't working for him
was swithed to augmentin on wed and seemed to be better..

i did forget to give him his morning dose though...not sure if that wouldmake a differencve

I think he's fine at 99.9.

Give him the antibiotics tonight and see how he is in the morning.

If he's acting weird - or is lethargic then maybe you should go to the ped if you are concerned! Chat Icon

It shouldnt make a difference NO...certain strains of infections are resistant to specific antibiotics...

I wouldnt really worry about the 99.9 temp...Could the themometer be set to rectal temp??? B/c the normal rectal temp for a child is 99.6

I don't think rectally 99.9 is a fever. I think our ped said anything over 101 is considered a fever.

There is a lot of variables during the day in body temp. "normal" varies from person to person. Your temperature will also vary throughout the day, usually being lowest in the early morning and rising as much as 1degree by the early evening.

Re: I CAN"T TAKE IT ANYMORE

momma, we're slaves to the rectal thermomenter, aren't we? Don't sweat this one...it'll go down once he is completely healed. Did you give him his dose after your realized you missed it?

I agree. The temp has to be over 100.3 to be a fever...doesn't it?

Re: I CAN"T TAKE IT ANYMORE

Can I tell you I still have NEVER taken DD's temp.?

She'll be a year on Tuesday.

She's never felt hot to me so no reason to take it -- and I think that little fluctuation can make you bonkers.

I wouldn't worry about anything under 101.

no, you're not a bad mommy. Awwww, I didn't ask to make you feel bad. I always forget everything, even medicine. He's lucky if he gets his vitamins 4 times a week. I was going to say that if you didn't give it to him because you missed it for the morning that you still could give it to him. Which you did! Good Good Good mommy.

A bad mommy wouldn't worry and care like you doChat Icon

Re: I CAN"T TAKE IT ANYMORE

TY everyone!

I know you are all right. I think i just have been around the block one too many times with these fevers.

I WISH i could say i never had to take a temp and envy those who haven't had a reason to.

DS is going to the ENT on tue so hopefully this will be the beginning of the end of the ear infections and my paranoia
