Ah, okay. I had a totally conceited friend once and I think the main reason he was so conceited was the fact that he wasn't trying to prove to everybody else that he was so wonderful. He was actually trying to prove it to himself. It was annoying being friends with him.

Yep...it's usually the conceited people who have low self-esteem, therefore they tend to over compensate or over emphasize, so they can feel better about themselves (on the inside)!!

yea my DH's freind is always trying to make people feel bad about themselve...i don't know if he knows...but a part of me thinks he does...and even likes the feeling of being superior...
i dunno...thankfully i do not deal with him that much but when i do...i wanna grab him and strangle him

yup thats my mom...she grew up with nothing...so she makes iy point to mention every little things she has...or every exoctic vaction she has ever taken. Dont get me wrong she is a great mom and I love her to death...but this is one aspect of her personality that really bugs me.

Have you noticed how folks who think they are so much better than everyone else, well, aren't?
My brother's ex GF was the most conceited self absorbed person but in the end, my guess is it came from a low self esteem kind of place.

This I can totally relate to. I know some people like that and it's really really annoying because you try so hard to not stoop to their level and be the "bigger person" meanwhile they continue to say things to make you feel inferior.

I knew this girl, who was beautiful. No doubt about it. And she knew it.
When we would go out, she would run her fingers through her hair and say, "Gosh why are people staring at me?"
I would just say I don't know.... But she so loved herself.
