I bought a beef round roast and I have no idea how to cook it!

Can someone help me?

It was a great deal, so I couldn't pass it up. I've tried looking online for some good recipes, but I figured I'd try here, in case anyone has a great recipe.

I have a crock pot, a grill, and a covered stoneware baker, any of which I'm willing to try!

Got any ideas for me? Chat Icon

Re: I bought a beef round roast and I have no idea how to cook it!

I first season the roast with salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, garlic powder and onion powder then:
(PRE) Heat oven to 450°F. Place eye of round beef roast in roaster or pan uncovered, after it has come to temp.

Cook in oven for 20 minutes. Turn off heat. Do not open oven door!

Let sit in oven for 20 minutes per pound. Perfect.

It sounds strange but it works perfectly EVERY time!!! Perfect medium rare mmmm, making me hungry!!!!Chat Icon

You could always put it in the crock pot on low for 8 hours (depending on the size) and make a pot roast. Add potatoes, carrots and etc . I've done that and it is delicious.

Re: I bought a beef round roast and I have no idea how to cook it!

I pour worcestershire sauce and a little gravy master on the meat.. let it soak for about 20 minutes.

Then I sprinkle it with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic and some thyme.

I brown it in a BIG AZZ oven proof cast iron skillet and cook it 20 minutes per pount.

I am so totally trying the turn off oven method described above though.. sounds PERFECT.

When the meat is cooked I put the skillet back on the heat, add a little red wine and deglaze the pan. Add beef stock and thicken it with flour for gravy. Correct the seasoning and done!

Thank you so much, ladies!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think I'll try it in the oven. I do have a cast-iron skillet, but I'm not sure if it's big enough to hold the roast. If it is, I will definitely try that.

THANKS for the turn-the-oven-off tip. Never would have thought to do that, but my meat ALWAYS has to be pretty rare in the middle Chat Icon

I'll let you guys know how it comes out! Thanks again!

The first 20 minutes with the oven on does basically the same thing, it browns the outside (Sometimes I even do 500 degrees for 15 minutes to get a little more brown Chat Icon ) so do not do both!!. You will end up overcooking the meat if it is already browned before going in the oven. I promise, it will end up perfectly medium rare YUMMMMMMMYYYY!!! Chat Icon

I figured as much. I cannot WAIT to try it!! Unfortunately my husband doesn't love roast beef and I JUST made it! I'll have to wait a month or 2 before giving it a go!

Not so good... Chat Icon I guess not bad for my first try, though.

I cooked the roast until it was a perfect 145 degrees inside. Cut it open...perfectly pink with hints of red. Awesome! Well, I didn't realize that the meat would continue to "cook" even after being cut. So it was all a nice brown color by the time I got it to the table Chat Icon Chat Icon

I ate mine with ketchup Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh no! I am so sorry Chat Icon Chat Icon Did you do it as I wrote above?
This thread actually motivated me to make a roast too so I made one last night. I did do it a little differently though, I started the oven at 500, lowered it to 475 for 20 minutes (they say 7 minutes per pound and I had a 4 1/2 pound roast cut in half but I like mine a little rarer - and besides, I can always pop it back in the oven for a few minutes to cook it more), then left it in the oven for 2 1/2 hours WITHOUT PEEKING!!!! Chat Icon . Once I took it out, I let it rest before cooking it and it came out perfect.
This is the one thing I don't use a thermometer for since I am letting it cook with the oven off for so long. I go by feel and look rather then the numbers, KWIM?

This is how I do it too. I like it to be like roast beef and not pot roast.

crock pot baby!!

throw it in the crock pot on slow for 6 hours...with a bag of small baby carrots, 2 celery stalks sliced 1, small onion sliced and two packets of Lipton onion soup mix and wham...easy fabulous Pot Roast!!! I add some flour in the end to thicken the gravy and let it simmer for 15 minutes
