Every baby tolerates different formulas differently. I was told by my doctor that yo start with a milk based formula like Enfamil of Similac and go there. If the baby has a hard time tolerating that (gas, spitup) you move onto a partially digested milk protien formula (like nestle good start) or a soy formula.
It kinda is a thing you have to try out.

The hospital will probably start you on something. But be careful as you dont know if your baby will either have or develop an allergy to what they give you. They will know though. Your pediatrician should come in to speak with you after they have seen the baby.
When I saw the pediatrician, they told me that LIJ gives Similac Advance but she strongly advised me NOT to buy anything because of possible reactions or allergies. If your baby takes well to what they give you, odds are they will give you a lot of it to take home and then you send your DH to get more when you know what you are set to use.

I use Similac Advance with iron and plan to use it again this time.

I signed up for every sample known to mankind and took as many as I could from the hospital. This helped us try them on DS before having to make a financial commitment. Check out the Enfamil and Similac websites.
