Re: I am Jazz

I have only seen the ads for it and I don't think I agree with it. This child is too young to make a decision to be so public about her private life. I think it's a really poor decision on the parents part. I think letting the child choose how they want to present his/her gender is one thing but to blast it all over the television at a very young age is not necessarily a great idea. I do think it will be helpful to people dealing with this issue though.

Re: I am Jazz

I watch it and it has help educate me a bit more but to be honest I feel bad for the rest of the kids in the family. Their life revolves around Jazz! They do seem like a very close loving family but on one episode they basically said Mom loves Jazz the most and when the other kids need their mom she is off with Jazz doing other things

I've watched every episode so far and she really seems like such a smart, well spoken, self aware girl for her age. I love the support that her family gives her. Even though she is very open and in the public eye now, I think it will be beneficial to other kids going through the same thing.

I think it's a terrible show and I truly feel bad for her (Jazz). Why would parents put her on a tv show when her life is hard enough. Do they think she is going to be accepted more with cameras following her around. I just don't get it. If I'm not mistaken, this family was in the news when Jazz was very young showing the world they were letting their son dress like a girl because that is what he/she wanted to do. I think the parents are looking for fame. I think the mother is overbearing and pushes Jazz when maybe she is not ready to make certain steps and I feel bad for the other children because basically they have been pushed aside.

I do though think that Jazz is an amazing young woman and is very brave being so open about being transgender.

ITA with this. The mom rubs me the wrong way.

With all due respect (and I MEAN that).

This girl coming out on TV and showing her struggles WILL save one person, one kid, one adult from committing suicide. If they see someone so brave (and so young) putting it out there, then maybe it will give THEM a reason to not want to die.

I think its a hard decision all around to go on "reality" TV. I think the parents knew what they were doing. I also think they know that by putting it out there it will not only help Jazz, but it will help other kids and families who are struggling.

I applaud them all for having the bravery to put it out there and help save lives.

Oh I totally agree that it will help others. I just have a hard time with the backlash that this young child will likely face. It's hard enough being the average teenager, I can't even imagine being put under a microscope at that age PLUS dealing with the issues that she likely is and will be. I don't know if I would want to subject my child to that and I don't think that she is old enough to make that decision for herself.

I think it's a great show. I feel like she has a wonderful, caring and supportive family. I do not see them seeking fame in any way.

I compliment them in what they are doing with/for their daughter. She was very active on YouTube for years before this show. She was "out" and acting as an advocate of sorts for Trans people.

I applaud her and her family!

Same here. She's a very lucky girl to have such a supportive family. She will be an inspiration to all of those kids and teenagers who feel the same way.

And to add, I wonder if those who think her family is exploiting a young child felt the same way about shows/families like honey boo boo or the duggars, Jon and Kate, or any reality type show featuring a family with children.

I do too. The children are not informed enough to make a decision. They don't think that once it's out here, it can't be taken back. I think the lack of privacy, the children growing up with cameras around, and producers manipulating stories can have an adverse affect on a child.

I do also. These kids are too young and don't understand. These families are all in it for the money.

Re: I am Jazz

I don't even think I would let my pre-teen or teenager try out for a show like American Idol! I don't think they're mentally mature enough to deal w/all of the things that come along with fame, reality tv, etc.

Re: I am Jazz

It is because of Jazz and her family that there have been changes to the Federal Law regarding the use of bathrooms in public facilities. OSHA released new guidelines for bathroom use.

As a parent, I applaud this family for allowing their child to be who she is. It is such a struggle to repress these feelings. Just think, this kid has a good shot at having a great life! She will still struggle with different things, but her struggle may just be a bit easier!

While I agree with most of you that she's well spoken, well adjusted, has great support, brave etc etc etc., she expressed on more than one occasion that she feels a lot of pressure/overwhelmed to be such a big public advocate/spokesperson. I hope she has a huge support system that will continue so that she doesn't succumb to the pressure under the spotlight Chat Icon

Chat Icon I agree. When she went to that support group and they were all talking about being abandoned by family members, people hating them, etc. Jazz said she felt so bad for them and realizes how lucky she is that she has never experienced any of that.
