I am dying for a glass of wine

I am not a drinker before pregnancy, and have not had a drop during this pregnancy.... but for the last couple of days I've been craving a glass of white wine!!!
I think having a glass of wine at this point (almost 38wks) is ok?
DH is watching me like a hawk, I told him that his DD is not going to come out having 3 eyes if I have a few sips at this point Chat Icon

ugh....

The reason the US says to avoid alcohol completely is because people have a hard time determining just what is an acceptable amount, how much is ONE unit, etc.

Alcohol crosses the placenta and because your baby is so small, it takes him/her a long time to process it. The baby's organs need to devote so much to breaking down the alcohol that important growth and development is put on hold. Also, the longer the alcohol stays in your body, the longer the baby is exposed. You need to have a decent amount of alcohol for that to happen, especially at your stage of pregnancy.

It's safe to say one glass is not going to hurt you or the baby.

Re: I am dying for a glass of wine

It's FINE -
My doctor told me it was fine as well.

I've had a glass of red wine for my 30th BDay - and a small small glass Christmas Eve.........

Personally, I'd rather have the whole freakin' bottle Chat Icon Chat Icon so I tend to just stay away entirely -

I am a big drinker, so no sauce for 9 mos is torturing me. I am a pretty conservative person when PG, but when I asked my Dr she said one glass here & there was fine as long as I was not habitual about it.

She did also say stick to beer and wine....no hard stuff. I was likeChat Icon do I look that desparate for a shotChat Icon

totally agree. in SO many developed countries women continue to drink alcohol, especially wine, throughout pregnancy - and their babies do just fine.

i drink a serving (4oz glass) of wine every few weeks or so, if i feel like it. i did the same in my first pregnancy (which turned out great, btw!).

i say have the glass of wine and ENJOY Chat Icon

Re: I am dying for a glass of wine

From what I know from my doc... and my sister in law who is an OB.... ( in Romania) wine and beer are 100% safe

you can have a glass of wine or a beer once a week or so....

It is fine... the problem is if 1 turns into 5.....

also as long as you are not drinking 100% proof stuff it is ok...

She always encouraged me to drink red wine especially.....

I dont know what it contains but she said it is great...

Also if you are craving something you should go for it....

She said it isnt good to crave something and not have it.....

My ob told me the same thing....

he said i rather you drink a glass of wine then drinking diet soda

He is very ANTI diet products during pregnacy...

he told me if you want a soda... drink 1 can ... not a whole 2 litter of regular soda... nothing diet....
