I am already thinking about winter...

I don't know how I'm going to do this...

I will have to scrape the car and brush all the snow off when the weather gets bad, and that can take a long time...

The whole time, Cailen will be inside the house by himself, undoubtedly screaming his head off.... and also, ambulatory... he will be crawling by the time winter hits hard....

what do I do? How did you ladies do it if you were by yourselves in the morning????

DH will do that for me, but he leaves between 4 and 5 in the morning - last winter, by the time I left, the car was icy and snowy again depending on how the morning was.....

Do you have a remote starter? Or go out quick just open the door and turn on the car to get it heated up inside. Then you can put him in his carseat in there with books or toys while you clean the car. Plus he'll probably enjoy watching you bust your behind to clean the car.

Well that could be a problem--lol Usually when the weather is that bad, I don't go out, or if I have to I use my remote starter it helps a lot!!

Re: I am already thinking about winter...

remote start - BEST THING EVER!!!

I blast the heat and set it on defrost before I get out of the car at night. Then I start it in the morning, before I"m ready to head out.

I can put E in the car while I clean it off, since its already warmed up and the snow/ice comes off easily from the heat.

(this is assuming Al's traveling - otherwise he does it Chat Icon Chat Icon )

Re: I am already thinking about winter...

thanks for the suggestions ladies.

Spending money right now is out of the question, unfortunately. We do have a car with a remote starter, but it is damaged and needs to be fixed, so maybe if we can get it fixed before winter, that may be an option... but once again, its money we dont have....

Looks like I'll have to do things the old fashioned way. Chat Icon

Can you run out, start the car, and run back in the house again with Cailen.
Leave the door open (your house door) so you can watch your car and Cailen at the same time.
Once the car is warmed most of the snow and ice should hopefully melt off.

You could pop him in the PNP or saucer and run out to start the car and let it warm up. The put the baby in after it's warm and then scrape the windows. That's what I'm planning on doing.

Two words "Superyard XP". The best thing I ever got off my registry. It's basically baby jail that provides them with some security while buying you some time. This has helped me out in a pinch more than once when there was no one around to step in and help.

Seriously, all they need is the little jumpsuit and ball and chain and they are ready to go!

Re: I am already thinking about winter...

My husband leaves at 4, and he would clear my car and even though I would have to do a tiny bit, it wound up never being all that bad.

I have a remote start, but only got it last year, so the wonter before that, I would have them in thier car seats all ready to go, run out and start the car, then by the time I grabbed them and got out the door, it was warm enough for them to get in. Then I would finish cleaning it.

It is a PITA, but totally doable.

Re: I am already thinking about winter...

I saw something I think it was in the Auto catalog, you place it over your windshield at night and when you take it off in the morning no snow or ice.

I'll try to find it for you

I would go out with my spare key and start the car and go back inside - then when it was warm enough, take DS to the car and brush with him in the car.

one thing to remember - If you are starting your car with a spare key, take your house key. DS locked me out once - I would have freaked if I hadn't brought out my set with the house key
