Hysterical- UPDATE!!!

My mother had a mammogram done the other day and they called her today saying that they didnt like the results and she has to go back tomorrow for another one. When she told me this I said everything was going to be fine. But when I went to bed tonight I started hysterical crying because I just kept thinking the worst. I know my hormones are crazy right now but I can not stop crying that is why I am up right now. My DH heard me crying and said everything is going to be fine and just fell back asleep. I am just so scared!!!

***UPDATE****
So my mother went today to get the second mammogram and the doctor said he did find lumps but they were small. He then said come back in 6 months and we will see if they grow at all.... I thought that was a little strange dont you think if you see lumps that it would be best to test them.... HELP do you think she should get another opinion??

Re: Hysterical

I would be scared too and crying. Try to be optimistic though. The same thing happened to my friend and they only wanted her to come back to have another one to compare it to.
On the other side, God forbid there is something they know about it and can do something about it,

please try to not be frightened. U never know. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Hysterical

That is the hardest thing to hear. My mom is a BC survivor (2 tumors), so I can remember what that day was like. I was an emotional wreck, and I was not even PG at the time. I was so scared, and thought the worst, but almost 4 years later she is healthy as can be.

Please feel free to FM me if you need.

Re: Hysterical

My mom had a bad mammogram also. I would try not to get upset because things will probably be fine. They had to take a biopsy on her breast and all the worrying we did wasnt worth it because the result came back good.

Everyone always tells me to not worry until there is a reason to. Which it true. Its hard to do, but you have to try and take it easy in your condition.

I hope everything turns out okay with her. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

The good news is, she goes for mammograms. This means that if there is somehting, they are able to address it ASAP....

Try to stay calm, but if you have to cry, cry.... Letting it out is better than keeping it in!!!

Good luck - please keep us posted!!!

I agree - your mom is showing a great example by staying on top of her appts. There could be a number of reasons why they want her to come back and many are very minor things but bottom line is that your mom has been doing a great job by staying on top of this - that is the very best any person can do and it can only help her.

Please let us know how your mom is doing...I'm keeping her in my thoughts and Chat Icon

Re: Hysterical

I'm so sorry you're so upset. Of course you would be, it's your Mom. My Mom has fought cancer TWICE and beat it. First was BC, and they detected it early enough that she was able to treat it and 11 years later, that hasn't come back. They first need to do a biopsy and see those resluts.

(The second cancer was ovarian cancer for my Mom..... the BC never came back)

Just remember- as scared as your feeling right now, your Mom is feeling that 10x's worse than you are. As hard as it is, try to hang in there until the other results come in. These days, they're just over pre-causious.

Re: Hysterical

I know how you feel. My mother has had to have several lumps removed over the past few years. Luckily they were only cysts or non-cancerous. I know how upsetting it is. Try not to think horrible thoughts. More than likely it will be nothing serious. Try to hang in there!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Hysterical

I have a few friends who had to go back a second time, but all was good - there is so much hope. The breast could have just been pressed down in a bad way.

Like others have said, thank goodness she went to get one! Catching these things early are key!

I hope that everything will be OK! I'm sure I would respond the same way that you described. As others have said, if there's a problem (and we're hoping there isn't, of course!) the doctors caught it early.

Best, best wishes... Chat Icon

Re: Hysterical

I find that right before bedtime is the worst time when you are dealing with stress in your life.

It's like things get quiet in your head for a minute and all the distractions are gone and everything catches up with you.

Lately I find I try to completely wear myself out before laying down just to avoid that time.

I'm sending lots of prayers your way that your mom is okay.
