Hydration Question

I'm about 13 weeks along now. Earlier in the pregnancy (maybe around weeks 5-9) I had to pee all the time. Then the peeing thing sort of stopped and I peed a normal amount. Now I'm still drinking as much as always and I'm peeing LESS. Usually after lunch I have to pee badly, having had some kind of coffee during the AM and usually a full 20 oz drink with lunch. Now I don't have the urge to pee after lunch and in fact I could probably make it until like 6pm without peeing!!! What is going on? Am I not drinking enough? I'm concerned!

Re: Hydration Question

I have the same thing...when I was 1st preggo I peed all the time. Now I am 23 weeks and def pee less but still have to go frequently. There was however a time that I could go all day at work without going. I think everyone is different and I would just keep drinking water and you should be ok.

Re: Hydration Question

Beginning in your 2nd trimester, your uterus begins to move up, taking some pressure off your bladder. Bloating also decreases, which should lessen that constant urge to pee.

Just keep drinking water! But remember that coffee dehydrates you, so that should be limited.

I have half a cup of coffee in the morning and that is all, so hopefully that's not contributing. I'm concerned that I'm not drinking enough water!!

There is no way I'm drinking 80 oz. My guess would be more like 50 oz. tops. Uh oh...

Hydration Question

My mom bought me a 20oz reusable water bottle and i fill it up about 5 or 6 times a day... its a lot easier to keep track of how much im drinking. I had a dehydration/UTI issue around 15w.

Hydration Question

I was told 64 oz a day by my OB (I never get to it -- I usually drink closer to 50-55 oz and have never had any fluid problems or anything). 80 would be out of control for my body type. At the very beginning, I was peeing constantly, then as the uterus moves up, it gets a little better. Towards the end it gets worse again, although since the baby has moved down again (I'm almost 38 weeks) it has gotten better again, thank goodness.

Weird thing is, I can make it for several hours during the day without going, but at night I'm up every 45 minutes to an hour.

Could just be that you're the lucky type whose bladder isn't too badly effected. But the volume of blood in your body has increased so much and your kidneys are working very hard to keep it all clean, which is why and how you produced extra urine. It's not just from drinking. You have to keep hydrated so that your body is able to filter properly.

I'd definitely up to 64 oz or however much your OB tells you is the minimum, but I also wouldn't worry unless you're having dizzy spells or seeing stars or something.

Re: Hydration Question

My doctor just said drink as much as I feel I need to drink - I usually get 4-5 16oz water bottles in each day. The doc did say though that I need to always check the color of the urine to make sure its not too concentrated (which would mean I wasn't drinking enough). So if its clear to light yellow I would say you are probably drinking enough for your body and if its a dark yellow I'd try to drink more, but its always good to see what you OB thinks anyways.

Hydration Question

OMG, I was never told 80 oz but I know every doctor is different. My official OB told me gallon a day. One of his partners told me 48oz-1gallon is good. A third doctor told me make sure I get at least half a gallon and shoot for a gallon if I'm being really active or if it's hot and humid out.

Even decaf coffee has caffeine in it. And any coffee will dehydrate you.

I actually just looked this up because I swore I heard recently that coffee/caffeine isn't actually dehydrating like everyone believes. Apparently unless you're drinking large quantities of caffeine, which you shouldn't be while pregnant anyway, it is just as hydrating as water. Makes me feel better!

Re: Hydration Question

I'm only drinking half a cup of coffee in the morning, so I doubt it could be severely dehydrating me. I think the bottom line is I'm not drinking enough water, which makes sense because I realllllllllly don't like drinking water.

My dr never said anything like this - all drs and all of our bodies are different so dont freak urself out. I peed a lot at the beginning and then went AT LEAST my entire 2nd tri like a camel. I never peed. And ive never had a prob with my urine or amniotic fluid. Talk to ur dr if ur concerned but i doubt u need to worry.
