So sorry you are going through this. You don't mention how close you are to your dad. I think it'd be a good idea to speak to your dad. When you do, try not to get defensive or accusatory but rather tell him how you see the situation with your DS and how it's affecting you and most likely how is affecting your DS. Sometimes people think children are not aware because they are children or because of their age. Perhaps your dad is not realizing how he's making you both feel. I'd definitely reach out and speak to him. If you speak to him and things do not change, then at least you try and you can go from there.

You should definitely say something to your Dad! OR limit the contact between him and your son for some time if you feel that your Dad's attitude is affecting your son's self-esteem.
And what 3.5 year old can read and write? Grandpa is definitely expecting way too much!
