Can someone tell me is it worth seeing if you have not read the books?

Meaning I never read any of the Harry Potters, but i think those movies were awsome.

While i read the Twilight Saga and IMO if you didnt read the books the movies were not worth watching.

I have not read the Hunger Game books, but i have free movie passes should i use them for this movie?? Chat Icon

Yes you should! First reviews are good! The books were really good.

There are 3 books. The movie is the 1st book of the trilogy. More movies will come out.

YES. I haven't seen it yet (Tonight! Chat Icon ) but I've heard nothing but rave reviews for this movie. It's been getting 4 and 5 star reviews. I've ever heard people say it's better than the books! Chat Icon But I won't believe that til I see it. Chat Icon

ETA: And yes, they've already signed on for the 2nd movie.

Re: Hunger games ...for those who saw it/will see it .. no spoilers

Saw it at midnight last night and read the books. While I have yet to see a movie that I think is better then the book I think they did an amazing job with this movie. I think a lot of movies that are from a book sometimes vere off the path of the book but this movie was very similar to the book. It captured all the excitement, intensityand anxiety you got from the book. The ending definitely leaves you wanting more (just like the book!) I think this can be enjoyed by someone who hasn't read the books too.

Re: Hunger games ...for those who saw it/will see it .. no spoilers

I read a LOT, and as a general rule I rarely ever watch movies about books that I've read, because reading the book almost always guaranties that I'll be disappointed in the movie.

Harry Potter is an exception to that rule because it's Harry Potter. But the books are still better than the movies IMO.

No one should watch the Twilight movies because they're just awful.

Hunger Games - I actually want to watch the movies because the previews look really good to me. And like I said, I usually don't feel this way.

Can't wait to see it, although it will probably be a week or two before I have time. I told DH that he is coming with me to this one. I think he'll enjoy it.

I also feel that books are always better than movies, but this looks really good.

It was good but IMO missing all of the character & relationship development that the book offers!

Gale was nonexistent, it looked like she was obsessed w rue after 4 seconds.... It just felt rushed to me

Re: Hunger games ...for those who saw it/will see it .. no spoilers

You will want to read the books after the movie because there is so much more development of the story and background.

I don't think you *need* to read to book to see the movie, but I saw the movie yesterday and it definitely seemed the film was geared toward those who know the story.

It is not easy to bring to screen a movie that is told in first person narrative that is mostly thoughts in the main character's head. You can't convey these things when she's thinking to herself and we are reading her thoughts easily on the big screen. But I did think they did as good a job as they could and I enjoyed the movie.

Re: Hunger games ...for those who saw it/will see it .. no spoilers

I always feel books are better than movies, so I decided to read the book this week in prep for the movie. OMG it was such a great book, I couldn't put it down and finished it under 24 hrs. Then I read #2 in a day.. now I'm on book 3. I really enjoyed the book and now I am psyched for the movie.

It was good, book still better, but that's to be expected (at least it is for me). They had to do a lot of story in that short time so it was a little rushed in the actual 'games' I think, but overall I like it a lot. There were lots of details that looked like what I pictured when reading (cornacopia, the tube bringing her into the games, the people of the Capitol, etc).

Woody Harrelson was a great Heymitch!

I saw it last night (I read the book) and LOVED it!

The person sitting next to me did not read the books but she said she really liked the movie.

I think you should definitely see it!

So happy there is a theatre by me that has cinema suites for the 21 & over crowd. It's how I saw breaking dawn and this movie for the midnight premiere. So peaceful!

AMC dine in theatres. They're sprinkled about the country. None in NY yet.

We're going tomorrow -I'm so excited.

To the OP - I started reading the books 4 days ago. I'm done with all three already. They are short and you wont want to put them down.
