Humping

Our group of friends have 3 dogs total. 2 females and 1 male. and iggy makes 4. When we go to each other's houses we all bring our dogs. All Iggy wants to do is hump one of the females. He used to try to hump the other, but it seems like he's not interested anymore.
He will not give it a rest. He doesnt even eat or want treats when she's around. it's like nothing else exists when she's around. and when she leaves, he's sniffing all over the house for her.
He just turned old enough to neuter so we'll be doing that.
It's a shock to me because he used to be so shy before.
I want him to be able to play with other dogs. And we want to get another dog in the future. Can we only get a male?

Once you get him neutered it should resolve the problem.
Plus, if he does it I would give him a firm no and put him in another room for a bit until he gets the idea that it's bad.
If the female isn't spayed, it might just be sexual thing.

Cody was a humping feen until he was neutered. Now hes much calmer and only gets humpie when hes really really excitted and playing with his toys. The doc said its not really humping more of a dominating aspect.

Is the female spayed? Neutering is not always a guarantee he will stop. Humping is sometimes as a result of dominance. Be careful he does not do so to a dog that will reply with anger, can be dangerous.

Thanks. I'm happy to know it's just temporary.
It's so funny when he does it because he's so little and the other doggie is much bigger than him. It's like he takes what he can get...leg, tail, back whatever
I try to stop him each time and we separate them, but he just goes right back to doing it when they are back together.

He mounts my arm occasionally (like he's hugging it), but no humping. But that's still dominance right?

Both my dogs are neutered but Jake still occasionally tries to hump Henry. It is really something to see a 70lb dog try to do this to a 30lb dog. I think it is just a dominance thing. He usually stops as soon as we tell him to.

get him neutuered asap so it does not become a habit. THat does happen, that dogs hump out of habit as opposed to hormones.

I don't think it means it will predict what type of dog you can get next time around.

No, she's not spayed.
I try to separate them each time because I dont want any babies. But he can't even reach her "area"
I'm looking into getting him neutered.
He just turned 6 months.

Sometimes dogs hump out of dominance....my parents dog used to hump Jessi (both females) and she was spayed for years. The vet said it was purely dominance.
