HSG Test

So I went and had my bloodwork done yesterday, should hear back by Thursday. Dh got Rx for SA and I was given one for an HSG. Those of you who have had it... I am a little freaked about doing it... can you answer some questions?

what radiology place did you use?

Did you have to do an enima before?

how exactly do they get they dye in?

Are they just doing a sonogram to watch where they dye goes?

Does is hurt? what part(s) of the test hurt?

How long does it take?

TIA... even if its something I didn't ask! I have to wait a few weeks to go as I "should" be ovulating this week.

how exactly do they get they dye in? they insert a tube so that the dye can be pushed thru

There is no sonogram...they may have a monitor where you can see the x-ray pics

For the the part where the dye was being pumped was a bit painful and getting the catheter in...I took an advil prior to help with the pain...everyone is different for some people it doesnt hurt at at all and others experience cramping after

How long does it take?
The procedure took 10-15 min

I would bring a panty liner since they usually have giant pads for the dye leakage. Good luck!!!

what radiology place did you use? I went in NYC (a location near my job in Columbus Circle) they were super nice!

Did you have to do an enima before? no, but they will ask you to pee ina cup before the exam so make sure to not pee before the exam!

Are they just doing a sonogram to watch where they dye goes? there is no sonogram, only x-rays. there will be a huge xray screen you can see as they are doing the exam

i took some advil before the exam, but it didn't help. the first thing they do is put a scalpel in like when you get your regular pap smear done. after they insert the catheter, which doesn't hurt, but feel uncomfy. Then they inject the dye - this feels like cramps and then when they inject the dye into your uterus/tubes i got really bad cramping, but as soon as she was done, the cramps went away and i was fine the rest of the day.

How long does it take?
no joke, the exam took me 5 minutes. bring a pad for afterwards because the iodine will leak out. although they will give you one if you don't have one with you

2.no..i was just told no sex 24 hrs before and after and some meds i was not allowed to take

3.they get it in through a catherdar

4.i think so lol..i could not see the screen

5.for a minute..and not hurt like a bad cramp..just as they dye goes in...the whole thing last 2 min tops

bring a pad with u bc the one they give u is a phone book

Are they just doing a sonogram to watch where they dye goes? this is pretty much what I saw. they wanted to see that the dye could go into the tubes and then out

Does is hurt? what part(s) of the test hurt? it felt pretty much similiar to a pap- uncomfortable. The only part that really hurts is when they "blow up" the balloon thing. I got 2 really bad cramps.

How long does it take? The actual test took about 5 mins

Thank you all for your responses... I don't feel as nervous and scared about it now.

And I know the enima question was strange... but on something the dr gave me it said it and I thought that was an odd thing to have to do!

i will keep let you all know what happens in a few weeks!
