HSG - what to expect--UPDATE
I just made my appointment for next week and all of a sudden, I'm really nervous. What should I expect? Does it hurt or is just a sono? They said something about shooting dye in my tubes
UPDATE: it wasn't bad at all. There was some cramping and I bled for the rest of the day and some of the next.
Thanks for the advice ladies!
I'll post a new thread with the results.

When I had it done it didn't hurt at all. You hear all these "horror stories" and get all worked up for nothing.
Just relax and don't worry about it

Re: HSG - what to expect
I have a prescription for an HSG too. I haven't made my appointment yet but from what I've heard and what my Dr told me - its not painful.

Re: HSG - what to expect
I was super nervous when I had it done, but it turned out to be not bad at all. Just some mild cramping. The Dr. told me to take advil about an hour before, which I did, so that may have helped.

Re: HSG - what to expect
I had mine done in March and I too was terrified of having it done.
It was not as bad as I thought it would be. There was no pain until they started to inject the dye and then I felt menstrual cramps a little more uncomfortable than my usual cramps but certainly tolerable. Once they were done I felt fine and had no problems or discomfort at all, I even went to the gym later that night.

Re: HSG - what to expect
It is made to sound worse than what it is. I did feel cramping when they started injecting the dye. It was near my cervix which is different than menstual cramping but definitly tolerable. You will have a speculum inserted like when having a Pap, but it remains inside throughout the procedure and they will have you rotate on your hips to get better images. It is a little uncomfortable, but not painful. I did not take any pain medicine prior to and did not have any pain or bleeding afterwards. Also, you should get an answer right away from the DR, if there are any obstructions, which is nice. GL and don't worry, will be fine.
