Re: How would you handle this?

As Tom Hanks said in "You've got mail"..

"It's not personal, it's business."

Sorry this happened though.

I am surprised by how many people think bc she waited (a day!) it is her own fault. Lots of griminess in this world.

Agreed. This woman sounds like a sleezy low life. Of course she knew you'd be targeting those people for sales. I guess for some people it's all about #1.

I would be really tempted to say something to her, if even in a joking manner "Hey, thanks for stealing all my future clients!" I really like the idea a pp mentioned of doing the campaign for the fall. Could you market this as a "back to school" item? (Dying to know what this product is! I hope you're selling here soon, you'd have tons of potential clients!)

I'm not understanding this ......if you start your own business, how can you possibly expect to be successful if you're NOT about #1???? It may not have been the polite or nice thing to do (and I absolutely agree, it was not) but I don't think it makes the other woman sleezy or trashy or whatver else you could call her When you see an opportunity, you have to go after it, you can't sit on it - if you want to be successful in that type of venture.
I wouldn't say it's the OP's "own fault" for waiting, she obviously didn't think she was waiting (a whol,e what? 10 hours?) and again I agree, but this other woman beat her to it ......which sucks - and if she were a FRIEND, that would be a sh*t thing to do, but she's just another Mom who has potentially the same clients - and she got to them first.

I guess this is why I wouldn't do well with this type of business. It seems pretty obvious that this woman stole the idea and a big chunk of the OP's potential clients. I personally wouldn't do that to someone. I might take the idea (if I were into that type of sales, which I'm totally not) but I wouldn't market it in the circle that we shard. If I did, I would fully expect to be considered sleezy and be disliked or it. As I said, I guess that doesn't matter to some people, long as they're getting some money in their pocket.

I wouldn't / couldn't do it either - which is why I'm on the corporate side of Life/Annuity sales. - I see what the sales agents have to do, how they have to work .......I just don't have it in me to be that way. But, I can understand that it's just the way it's done IF you want to be successful in that type of job, it's what you have to do.

My DH is in annuities/life insurance too! Chat Icon

I get what you are saying and agree it is not the gig for me most sales jobs are not for me. I just don't have what it takes to be a ruthless motherfuckerr and Im to embarrassed to be pushy and annoying Chat Icon
