How would you feel...
if you found out your MIL sent out a holiday letter to her distribution list and wrote some private info about you in it? 
I'm not talking about seriously private things, but they're things that I wouldn't discuss with everyone, let alone everyone SHE knows.

it was one of those holiday "news" letters. she always writes about herself and her kids - and then her 2 DIL's too.
I don't know... I guess I should be used to her by now, but that rubbed me the wrong way

she also made some "off" comment about my BIL in that letter. I'm sure if he knew about it, he'd be pretty p*ssed!
the only reason I know what this letter said is b/c she sent one to my parents and my Mom read it to me.

 I guess it would depend on what it said. My inlaws sent out that "family update" this year and said it was an uneventful year! UNEVENTFUL there youngest son got married and bought his first house! I could have screamed when my mom read it to me. She got 1 but we didn't Anyways at the very end it says....Joe and Lindi had a beautiful day for their wedding Merry Christmas the Meyers
That's it.....no yea we love her, or what an exciting year. My point...sorry I ramble..is without knowing what was wrote and the content I may or may not be mad. Everybody is different. FM if you want to chat

i think it depends on what it was... if was something about me and m y job, or if i was pregnant or if there was some other milestone in my life like buying a house, new job, etc. i wouldn't mind. those letters are brag letters in a sense or update letters to people that you don't talk to that often. i don't think i would mind too much. she probably loves you and wants to share the news...
if it was very private like my salary or health issues or marital issues, then i would be mad....

My MIL once shared something with family members (though not through a letter) that I wish she hadn't. I asked DH to speak with her so it would never happen again. She did not have intent to be hurtful, but our privacy is important.

I would be pizzed to, i would say to her when i want you to share anything from my private life to anyone in the letter's than i will let 'YOU' know, in the future ask me First than i'll let you know if i want you to write it or 'NOT'. Im sorry you have to deal with that. My mom can be the same way with people she has not spoken to in a year and tell's them about what's going on in her kids lives.

for all of you who said you'd be furious/pizzed...
would you *really* say something to her directly, or would you have DH do it?
I really would like to say something to her about it, but she is SOOOOOOO sensitive and gets her feelings hurt very easily. I don't want to start anything... espcially since we're leaving in a bit to go there for a week 
maybe I should just let it go

I would probably be annoyed but in the spirit of the holidays I wouldn't let it get the best of me. I would mention to DH that he should speak to her to let her know that she should let you guys know what she's writing in the future to make sure that it's nothing that you don't feel comfortable letting others know.
Try to take it as that she's looking forward to becoming a grandma? I'm just thinking that she did it b/c she's excited, not because she was trying to step on anyone's toes. Feel better!!!
