How to read a chart?

I am temping, more for birth control than TTC right now... I am past the free trial on FF...

What am I looking for in my chart? I know the ovulation shows up but what "trend" would show pregnancy and would "trend" would show AF is coming?

Thanks!

16 days of high temps = pregnancy. Sudden drop in temp = AF.

Re: How to read a chart?

you want to look for overall patterns. you don't want to focus too much on individual temps. lower temps before ovulation and higher ones after. you should be able to see a noticable increase in the temps that follow ovulation compared to the ones b4. my temps b4 ovulation are between 97.2 - 97. 6 depending. after ovulation they are 98.1 or higher. it takes about 2 days after ovulation for my temps to reach the 98 mark.

ETA
if af is coming there will be a drop in temps. my usually drop the day of af or day b4

Yes, 16 days starting with O. High is different for everyone - what I meant was above the coverline.

Personally, my pre-O temps are 96.8-97.4 and post-O temps are 97.5-97.9. I've only had one temp above 98.0 since I started temping in January, even though most people say post-O temps are 98.1-98.4 - mine don't go that high.

Re: How to read a chart?

I thought TCOYF says 18 days over the coverline is PG. That book explains charting very well. I have a slow temp rise after ovulation and a slow temp decrease at the start of AF, not a sudden drop before it begins.

Re: How to read a chart?

You should invest in Taking Charge of your Fertility. It has sections on charting for conception and contraception. Temping does get easier after a few months. You will learn your normal O time and be more aware of your body. Also some women have a long LP. I can go up to 17 days past O before I get af. Good luck
