How to go about finding a RE?

DH and I have been just "seeing what happens" for the past year. We've been actively trying for the past 3 months with no luck. My OB/GYN said that I could come in and she would put me on Clomid but I'd rather be monitored by a RE. How do I go about finding a RE? I have United Healthcare.

Re: How to go about finding a RE?

My daughter just started seeing Dr. Braverman in Woodbury. All I've read is rave reviews about him. Good luck.

You should find out who/what is covered by your ins first. Different plans will have different coverage (not all United Healthcare is the same plan). Then once you know your options, you might want to consider making several consults to see who you "click" best with.

I have Empire Plan (teacher) Anyhoo, I know my plan has a list of providers that are considered "Centers of Excellence." I am 100% covered at those places. I don't even pay copays. I can go to other places I think and they will pay 80%.

Definitely call your provider and find out about their infertility coverage. I needed approval to see an RE too.

Good luck!

I went to Dr. Braverman by the recommendations on here. While I didn't LOVE him and didn't get the warm and fuzzies from him like a lot of people do on here, I thought he was a good doctor, his treatment worked and I got pregnant.

He takes United, so it's worth the consult if his location is convenient for you.

Re: How to go about finding a RE?

I asked my OB to make a recommendation. I also asked some friends. Then I looked at the stats on the SART website and based my decision on that. I had one friend who was recommending a Dr. in the city but when I looked him up, his success rates are horrible. I know there are many factors that can affect success rates when dealing with infertility but in some ways I also think the numbers speak for themselves. You want to go somewhere that you know you are going to have a good shot at getting pregnant, since that is really the only reason to see an RE.

Good luck on your journey!

Re: How to go about finding a RE?

I asked for recommendations from the girls on here and family members. I've heard great things about Dr. B, but his office location just wasn't conveniient for me, especially since you will have to go frequently and mostly in the mornings. I decided to go with Dr. Saketos from Reproductive Specialists of NY in Mineola. There are 6 docs in the group. I absolutely LOVE her and the location was SO convenient for me. I work in NYC, so after my early appts, I could just run across the street and hop on the train from the Mineola station. HTH!

Re: How to go about finding a RE?

First find out what sort of infertility insurance you have and which facilities and drs are covered. Than look at the hours and the locations because you will be spending a lot of your time there so it has to be something that is convenient for you.

Re: How to go about finding a RE?

I asked my GYN for a recommendation and my best friend happened to work for Human Reproduction at North Shore and I used Dr. Cohen while I was there.

I do not go there anymore, I wound through one of my aunts being able to talk a fertility researcher at Columbia and now I go to American Fertility (AFS) in the city.

I have not gotten pregnant yet from either office, so I am not biased in anyway, if you want to FM me for specifics for both offices.
