How to get a found cell phone back to owner? Update!
Found a cell phone in the street in my neighborhood when I was taking my kids for a walk. It's locked with a passcode and also set to Spanish, which I can't read or speak. What do I do with It? Wait for someone to call, and hope they speak English, or should I bring it to the nearest police station? Would they even bother trying to get it back to its owner? Any other ideas?
Update: we found the owner! Dh is way better at tech stuff than me, and he noticed there was an external storage card for pictures, so he took it out and popped it in our computer and looked up the location of the last picture taken and we brought it to that house and sure enough found the owner, who was very happy to have it back. All stuff I never would have thought to do in a million years.

The problem is not only is the phone set to Spanish, but even all the manufacturer info on the back is in Spanish, so I think maybe it was purchased in another country.

From what I can tell I think it's possible a pay-as-you-go phone from a Spanish speaking country. When I turn it on the welcome screen says Tigo.

Check the SIM card if they might be using an international phone with an American plan

Re: How to get a found cell phone back to owner?
It's going to be virtuously impossible. My MIL found a T-Mobile phone and took it to the T-Mobile store. They couldn't help (or couldn't be bothered). I called up T-Mobile and asked if they can find the owner based on the serial number of the phone (we couldn't unlock it). They told me no.
I don't know if they really can't or if they don't want to because they want to sell more phones.

so happy to read that there are good people out there.
SO lost his phone over the weekend. he believes he saw a bunch of kids who might have picked it up, when he turned around to look for it. we called and texted the phone and offered a reward... nothing.
was a rough weekend with an angry man yelling about those teenagers.

That's another reason you should have an emergency number. For iPhone, press "emergency" on the screen where you would enter the PIN number. Then go to "medical ID".

Good idea! I never knew this, but I just added an emergency # to my phone. Thanks for the tip!
