How often does your infant spit up?

My DS spits up often after a bottle feeding. Sometimes he could spit up an hour after a feeding... I would say that he spits up 3/4 times a day.

Should I be concerned? Could this be acid reflux? The thing is that he does not seem in pain when he does spit up or drool formula. Sometimes after spit up he smiles. I have noticed sometimes he chokes but I'm not sure if its from his spit (he's been drooling a lot, I think he is teething) or if it is acid reflux.

Any thoughts?

Re: How often does your infant spit up?

My dd is 6 months and still spits up atleast 7-10 times a day. She is a happy spitter though, it never bothers her and its never really alot. I asked the ped and he explained that some kids just spit up often and it is not something to be concerned with. He also said that when they start sitting up and standing it will decrease.

dd spit up tons.... all day and at night sometimes. she was what ppl consider a happy spitter. if you dc is gaining weight and not bothered by it, it may just be happy spitting up! just means a lot of extra laundry for you Chat Icon

Depends on the day and what she ate. Sometimes it's once, and sometimes its 5-6 times. As long as your DC doesn't appear to be in pain or is otherwise uncomfortable, it's ok - spit happens.

All the time! Durning feedings, right after feedings and hours after feedings. Between that and the drool he wears a bib all day long. He does have acid reflux. Before we put him on meds he would scream alll day long. Feeding him was really hard too. He would pull away and then cry because he was hungry and then cry because he was in pain. He would knock out after that Chat Icon

Re: How often does your infant spit up?

Sounds like he is what my ped calls a "happy spitter".
Infants do spit up a lot- because their stomachs are just so small- so anytime they drink more than it can hold, it comes right back up.
As long as he doesn't seem in pain, or arches his back, screams, etc., it's probably just normal spit up.
