How often does your car insurance increase?

We just got a letter that our car insurance is going up. Not by much but we have no tickets and no accidents. Is this the norm?

Mine stays either just about the same or goes down with each renewal.

I'd call and find out why it's going up -- could some discounts have expired? (Eg.--defensive driver.)

Yea, I would call. Mine never goes up. If fact, sometimes its lower since Im a good driver.

The last 2 years mine has gone up, and we have no tickets or accidents. I called because I felt the same way, that it should be going DOWN if anything. They said it wasn't just us, that it was going up across the board with their company (Geico).

A lot of companies have recently increased rates in NY because of medical costs rising & repair costs going up too. It may not be directly related to your record or anything. Definitely call & ask though! There may be discounts available to you & at the very least, you deserve an explanation!

Mine goes up every 6 months by a few dollars. I have Geico and they claim the increase is due to cost of doing business and others accidents, despite my clean driving record.

I had GEICO also and my insurance jumped an extra $ 80/year . I didn't see any reason for the increase - esp since my driving record was clean and I completed a defensive driver course last year...so I was told it was just increased cost of doing business.

I ended up switching to my own employer's insurance (I work for an ins company that also underwrites auto policies) and not only did I save 20% under their employee discount but I added DH's cars on the policy and we shaved off at least $300 from the old insurance quote!

My parents had the same situation - they were with 21st Century Insurance, rates went up for no reason - they just switched to Geico and lowered their rate..if Geico raises their premiums in another year, they plan to switch again...

Your credit can affect your rates also. I think my insurance co. checks my credit every other year.

my insurance with Geico is redonk lately. I have to shop around its insane i feel its always going up and i dont any accidents or tickets either.

I have Allstate. Very happy with them...

You can usually google the state and see if overall rates are going up. Other than that, no my rates don't go up. They go down. I have a few accidents and one ticket (which should drop now).

Only time I see an increase is when the state mandates an increase.

ETA: I'm with AMICA. They only take clean drivers. And they have an optional dividend rate so you get a check at the end of each year. I don't do 6m policies. I lock into a year's rate. And the payments are 10m instead of 12 full so I get two months with no insurance payment (but fully covered) and a check. Works for me
Oh and no deposit required to sign up (which at the time was huge for me)
