I run it once maybe twice a year usually at the beginning and end of winter. It doesn't get that dirty. It takes several hours between the cleaning phase and the the cool off time. It makes the kitchen warm but the rest of the place is ok but I won't run it the same time I am using AC.

I am way overdo - but I don't do it when it's hot out - it heats up the entire first floor.

It's actually pretty cool out now, maybe I'll go and do it Chat Icon .

Re: How often do you set your oven to self-clean?

I've never done it. Chat Icon I don't know, we always did our own cleaning so never let the stove clean itself! I read the manual and it said there could be smoke and a smell and all that and I thought... not worth it.

Do you ever get smoke in the house when you do it?

Never--it gets too hot and scares the crap out of me. I clean it manually.

Probably twice a year....when it's cold.
I inevitably will spill sausage grease like the next night and the whole process was moot. Chat Icon

Re: How often do you set your oven to self-clean?

I should probably do it more often but I hate the smell, it literally makes me sick but I don't like to leave the oven on when I'm not home.

Re: How often do you set your oven to self-clean?

I hate the smell and the heat. I bought and used Easy off a few months ago, I had a party for my son's Communion and a tray of lasagne fell on my hot oven door so it baked right on. Easy off was so easy and the stuff came off LOL They make one with no fumes so it's not the old fashioned really smelly stuff. 1000x better than running my self cleaner, esp in June. I'm going to use it again next time bc it was that easy vs the heat and smell of the oven one.

We have to do this as well b/c last and the first time I ran it, my neighbors called the fire dept. No using the self clean in our apt. building...I had the windows opened and watched the firemen look around our floor.

I think I've done it 2x in the 4+ years I've owned it. I HATE the smell and I'm always afraid to leave the house.

I have done mine once since moving in in Feb. Let me tell you the person who lived here first must have never done it (and then add that to a cooking mishap I had) it was BAD. There was a little smoke and an icky smell but we di d a good wipe down before hand.

Re: How often do you set your oven to self-clean?

here's a dumb question...

what does it really do?

is it better than cleaning it yourself?

I did this once.. and it stunk so bad.... then I just started cleaning the oven myself. I wasn't sure what the point of it was; in terms of how much it actually cleans.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

It burns away all of the food that might have dropped into ashes.

Everything gets kind of sparkly. I wait till it cools and clean out the ash with a wet paper towel. It's much better than using harsh chemicals.
