How often do you replace your towels?

Bathroom towels are getting worn but are still functional, not sure at what point I shouldn’t retire them. How often do you replace your bathroom and kitchen towels?

Re: How often do you replace your towels?

If they get worn to the point of fraying on the ends.
I have bathroom towels that I still use from my shower like 16 years ago.

Kitchen towels more often because they get badly stained etc

Whenever I feel like they aren't nice and fluffy anymore. I had some that were 10 years old that I just replaced. I decided life is too short not to have nice towels that I enjoy after my shower!

This. Was putting it off and just did it. Didn’t cost that much and bathroom got a facelift.

At the beginning of every year. It's just a thing I do. I like starting the year with all new bathroom towels. And they usually go on sale this time of year.

Usually every 5ish Years, but I just got new ones from Macy’s and they are garbage that I think I’ll be replacing them before a Years use.

Re: How often do you replace your towels?

i'm smack in the middle of replacing all our bathroom towels.

being that SO and i combined our stuff when moving in together, i don't know how old "his" towels are. mine are almost 4 years old. i bought cheap towels just to quickly have something, so i knew they'd have to be replaced soon.

i'm going to be cutting them down and hemming them so they can be used in the kitchen and/or garage.

I have towels from 3 years ago and just ordered a few new ones, some were very expensive and are not used often so they are nice and fluffy. My towels I use all the time are starting to fray. I got new ones at Macy’s, during a sale they are pretty cheap to replace!!

depends on the towels I guess. We got nice ones from macy's from our registry and they are still really fluffy 3.5 years later. we also got towels from costco from someone who made a towel cake for our shower. Those are in the other bathroom and they really need to be replaced

Re: How often do you replace your towels?

It's been a while. They are still in great shape and super soft five years later, so I don't plan on new ones until these go. I have had others I replaced soon after because they were just terrible. I use those bad ones for cleaning the floors, car, just not us.

Re: How often do you replace your towels?

I just replaced mine 2 years ago when we redid the bathroom. The old ones were still nice (we had those for about 5 years) and we use them as boat/dog/car towels. I just wanted new towels to go with the new bathroom.

I still have a hair towel from 1990. It's the best. Just small fraying on the end.

My towels have a pretty long life...maybe 10 years or so... but I still use them when they start to look worn out.

Re: How often do you replace your towels?

Once they're fraying at the ends and losing their fluff they get thrown out or recycled as dog or cleaning towels. It depends what type of towels you buy though. I have some Ralph Lauren towels I got for my shower 18 years ago that I still use because they are still in great shape.

I generally try to be frugal with most of my purchases but I've found that spending $$ on quality linens and towels is absolutely worth it.

I bought all new towels when we had the new bathroom put in. I still use our old towels for my 7 year old son. The old towels are 15 years old and in great shape still.

I'd say somewhere around 5-7 years. We bought towels when we got married and moved to our first house. When we moved to our second house 6 years later we bought a new set. We've been here 6 years and bought 2 new sets. Some of the older sets are still in rotation. Some are car towels and some are rag towels.

The ones from 12 years ago are spare/rag towels half of which are frayed. The 6 year old towels are generally pretty OK except the washcloths, just not as nice feeling.

Sheets on the other hand have been an issue, we haven't found ones that stand up on our king bed we got 5 years ago. Jennifer Lopez brand, less than 2 years. Simply Vera Wang, 1 set had fraying within a year, the other within 2 years. We're not going with Fieldcrest from Target, they feel so nice, fit nicely, but we'll see on durability.

Re: How often do you replace your towels?

As long as they stay nice, I keep them. Once they start to get thin and crappy, I re-purpose them for cleaning or dogs. I have some that I spent a lot on and I've had them almost 10 years. I bought a new set on sale, and they are looking crappy after only a year. It really depends on the quality. Hand towels for the guest bathroom, I replace more often only because they get worn out, or start to look old, a lot quicker (even though we don't have guests that often).
