No clue what the going rate is...but someone wants me to care for her 2 month old, approx. 8 hours per day. I don't know if I should charge hourly or do a set amount. And what can I expect to make?

My friend sends her son to a daycare and it's a set price $200 weekly and you have to pay even if you don't send them. Or if you do it by the hr I believe it's $10 an hr.

$50 - $60 a day for FT. I paid $250 a week for FT daycare when my son was an infant.

I get an amazing deal, my sitter charges 25 a day. But, I think 50-75 a day is reasonable

I'm paying our nanny to watch a 3 monh old $10 per hour. She will be part time though. Don't know if that makes a difference.

That's a bit high. A center charges around $200-$300 a week where the caregivers are trained, etc. I pay my center $245 a week for 45 hours.

Unless you are licensed and registered and are operating a business as I would charge around $200 a week or so.

Re: How much would I charge for full time care for an infant?

I would say $250-300 per week is fair.

As far as I'm aware, nannies/babysitters are typically more expensive than daycare.

IMO, the OP should get no less than $10/hr or $90-100/day.

Thanks everyone. Chat Icon

See, I am so torn as well. Part of me wants to charge $10 an hour. I am an experienced mom with my MS in teaching. JMO but to me, it feels like an insult to charge something as low as $200 per week. That's $5 an hour....not even minimum wage. I could make more money working retail or at a fast food joint, yet I would be responsible for taking care of someone's little baby.

Ugh.

Re: How much would I charge for full time care for an infant?

I watch one infant from 7:30 to 3...5 days a week. I get paid 250.00 a week.

I really wanted 300 a week...but everything esle was so perfect with this family that I let the 50.00 go.

IMO, nannies should get paid more then a daycare center. Especially if the child has solo sleeping quarters in your home.

A nanny and a babysitter are completely different. A nanny comes to your house and cares for your child, typically alone. It's one on one care. The OP has children of her own and is caring for other children in her home. The "convenience" factor and complete attention just aren't there like there is with a nanny.

When I was calling around, in home daycare was roughly $50 a day for most, some were $40, and these were licensed/registered places, that's why I said $200.

I don't see where she said she has children of her own and is caring for other children in her home Chat Icon Did I miss that?

I thought she just said caring for a 2 month old 8 hours a day. Babysitter, nanny, call it want you want. When I was looking for someone to come to my house, they wanted more than $100 a day. I thought $80-100 is good. I's sticking to that Chat Icon

Maybe it depends on the area. Nannies that come to your home I found are around $500 a week where I live (Selden)

Re: How much would I charge for full time care for an infant?

I know someone who watches one 6 month old four days a week for $300.00 (from 9am to 3:30pm)

I also know another person who has a "nanny" LIVING with her 5 days a week (sun night - Fri) morning. Light cleaning included. The kids go to school during the day from 9am to 4pm. This woman makes $500 a week.
