How much less do you look to pay when buying something off Craigslist?

The Step 2 Neat & Tidy Cottage House is $160 at Toys R Us. Someone on Craigslist is asking $100 for it. She says it is like new, used indoors only and has all its parts. We have to drive about 45 minutes to get it. Worth it?

I don't buy anything used unless it's a least 50% off and even then it's a stretch, more like 30-25% of the original price.

In this case, why would I want to buy something used that I can get new for about 40 more? ( assuming you use a 20% off coupon.)

That is what I was thinking. Do you have a 20% off coupon for TRU? Where can I get one?

oh and to add to it. when DH spoke to the woman she said she wanted $100 cash and not a $100 bill. What nerve!

Sign up at TRU and they will start sending them to you. You can also google TRU and see what comes up.

Unless it's new, in box, I would say at least 1/2....

I have bought a few things from craigslist..people ask for crazy prices on used items. I def. would not pay more than 1/2. Negotiate. If she won't come down, then pass, and wait..another one will pop up at a better price.Chat Icon

She would not negotiate. She was even picky on how she got her $100 cash. We declined and moved on. Thanks.

Re: How much less do you look to pay when buying something off Craigslist?

As a buyer/seller on craigslist/ebay, I never ask for 50% of retail value. Usually for used, I'll try 25% of it.

When buying, I always ask less then they are asking. For $100, I would ask $75. If she says no, then walk away.

Lots of people do. My DD's school has one indoors and I had a big climber indoors for awhile. During the colder months, it's a lot of fun for the kids.

Re: How much less do you look to pay when buying something off Craigslist?

That cottage was on sale for $129 not too long ago, so I would say $100 is way too much! I would pay 50% of retail for something I really wanted on CL.

Re: How much less do you look to pay when buying something off Craigslist?

If it really is like new and it costs $160 new, I might consider it at $100. I'd have to see it first and decide. But if you want it for outdoors, those things are practically indestructible so I would prefer to buy a well used one for less money and powerwash it.

I don't understand what's so nervy about wanting cash and not $100 bill though. Chat Icon

ETA: The 45 minute drive would be the deal breaker for me. There are bound to be tons more cropping up on craigslist and garage sales.
