how much is too much?

yes, this is wedding related sorry. when it comes to showers and whatnot - how much is too much? is 2 showers 2 many? would you ever have 2 baby showers or 2 1st b-day parties. where do you draw the line??

to answer my question, i think 2 showers is a bit much. yes, you may have a big family, but do you need to invite everyone to the shower? i'd prefer one small-ish shower....i think 2 is just over the top. thoughts?

Re: how much is too much?

I think showers Suc k all together. It is so borning. I would rather just skip the party, have something from your registry sent to your home.

To give up 5 hours of my weekend to sit in a room with everyone you have ever met, and buy a gift that you have already picked out. I swear I am sooooooo tired of the words chicken francaise.

Same food, same gifts....

I also hate leaving DH at home. I wait all week to be with him, then have to leave him at home for a gift giving extravaganza. I don't feel this way with intimite ones. I love a house shower. Comfortable, I am not confined to a chair for 5 hours sitting with your coworkers/neighbors that I have ran out of things to say to them in the first 15 minutes.

Sorry, I went crazy. I am a hater. I had my cousins and aunts at mine. It was a bbq at my mother's house. people stayed till 1:30 AM. I would never have invited all others.

Re: how much is too much?

My mom didn't invite everyone on my wedding list to the shower
I wanted a more intimate shower so only close friends and family attended

Re: how much is too much?

I never know what to wear to a shower either. I always feel like it is day 6 in my work clothes.

An at home shower I feel is a nice pair of jeans and boots. music, good food.

SOrry but IMO jeans aren't acceptable to any shower...whether it is at home or at a restaurant!

I feel the same. I am uncomfortable not getting dressed up, but I am not going to anywhere usually classy either.

I think 2 showers is fine but no one except the moms and bridal party should be invited to both.

Re: how much is too much?

what would be the reason for 2? My coworkers threw me a little one on a Friday afternoon, but that was it as far as a second shower

Re: how much is too much?

I had 2 baby showers because my entire family lives in Maine/NH and my DH's all lives here in NY....so I had 1 in Maine and 1 in NY. I loved mine and truly appreciated them. Guess it depends on the circumstances.

That's how mine was too- my mom always said that my shower would be at the house, but because of her health issues my dad insisted that it be at a restaurant. I didn't care- I waited a long time to be a bride and I wanted my shower. Chat Icon

But multiple showers is a bit much.

ETA- I do understand the purpose if there are relatives out of town. DH's parents wanted to have a party for us in Wisconsin, because most of his family did not come to the wedding.

Really big families, fueding families, if parts of the family live in different states, different themes, etc.

I am not saying I wanted more then one shower...but I can see why someone may have more then one.

Re: how much is too much?

I definitely think 2 showers are too much.

After having gone through it all- I think all the parties are kinda silly (engagement, shower, bachelorette, wedding). I think we have all gotten carried away with all this and since we have all been to a million of each, and given gifts for all these occassions- we think we should have one too. BUt think about how far these have strayed from the original purposes of these events.

Now that I am pregnant, I don't a baby shower- I will have a celebration when the baby is due- so people can meet him/her.

No, I didn't even want one. My mother insisted that I had one and because of it and my stubborn MIL, we never had a baby shower for Christopher, which was MUCH more important to me.

All of my OOT relatives just send a gift, as far a feuding families, what happens at the wedding?

I have probably one of the biggest families, but I only invited 1st cousins and aunts.
